We're big fans of Delta and its SkyMiles frequent flyer program. And we get that you are, too. Earning more SkyMiles never hurts.

The key to earning Delta SkyMiles – or any points and miles, for that matter – is to maximize every dollar you spend. And that goes far beyond just flying Delta or opening credit cards to rack up miles. It extends to all the shopping you do online.

Enter the Delta SkyMiles shopping portal. This portal makes it easy to earn bonus SkyMiles for shopping online at hundreds of retailers – the shopping you're doing already. It's one of our favorite ways to earn extra SkyMiles.

We'll walk through exactly how to use the portal to earn bonus SkyMiles for the shopping you are already doing.

What are Online Shopping Portals?

Online shopping portals are sites that allow you to earn cashback, points, miles, or other rewards for shopping at hundreds of retailers.

You start by searching at the shopping portal of your choice, clicking through to the retailer before each and every purchase. From 1x to 30x or more, every dollar you spend will earn you those bonus points or miles (or cashback.) You're still buying directly from the retailer – you just earn a bonus for starting through the portal.

The Delta SkyMiles shopping portal is just one of the dozens of portals you can use. The key is to know where to look and search for a deal before you shop.

How to Use the Delta SkyMiles Shopping Portal

If you have a Delta SkyMiles frequent flyer account, you're set – you will have access to the portal.

Just head to the Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal and log in with your SkyMiles account information – you don't need to create a new account to use the shopping portal. From there, you just select the retailer you're shopping with and it will take you to their site to make your purchase. Just for clicking through with Delta, you'll earn bonus SkyMiles.

Let's say you're about to buy some athletic wear from Under Armour and you want to earn some bonus SkyMiles while you do it. Head to SkyMilesShopping.com, log in, and search for Under Armour and you'll see how many miles you earn for your purchase – currently 9x miles per dollar you spend. So a purchase of $100 would net you 900 SkyMiles bonus.

You can also filter through to see the retailers or services with the highest current earnings bonuses – an easy way to see how you can pile up some SkyMiles with a purchase you've been putting off.

Or you can start by visiting a site like cashbackmonitor.com. Cashback Monitor allows you to search for any online retailer and will show you the cashback or points portals that you can earn a bonus at for shopping there. There are a few other websites that will give you this same information, but I find Cashback Monitor is the easiest to use and their information always seems to be in real-time.

Read our full guide on using CashBack Monitor here.

For example, eBags is one of our favorite online retailers of luggage and many travel accessories. And it was offering a number of lucrative shopping portal bonuses, including 7x Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar or 6x Delta SkyMiles per dollar if you Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal.

CashBack Monitor allows you to see the current portal bonus information quickly and easily and helps you make a decision on which one to use.

Once you decide to use the SkyMiles Shopping Portal for purchasing from eBags, you'll need to head to the shopping portal. You can either click through directly from the CashBack monitor site or head to the SkyMiles shopping homepage.

On the Delta SkyMiles Shopping homepage, you can see the current eBags shopping portal bonus along with a number of additional sales that you can stack with the ability to earn 6x SkyMiles per dollar spent. These deals were all a part of eBags' Black Friday Sale.

Once you've clicked on the “Shop Now” button, you'll see a disclaimer that lets you know you will be leaving the Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal and that you will earn bonus SkyMiles as long as you complete the purchase at the merchant's website. You'll be redirected there automatically so you won't have to make any additional clicks.

And though we are using eBags for our example, there are hundreds of stores available through the SkyMiles shopping portal that allow you to earn additional miles for your shopping. You can visit and search for the full list of stores here.

Thrifty Tip: Make sure to install the Delta SkyMiles Shopping browser extension. This will make it even easier to earn those bonus SkyMiles. You can read our post on this topic here.

Are All Purchases Eligible to Earn Bonus Miles Through SkyMiles Shopping?

While most purchases should be eligible to earn bonus SkyMiles, it's always worth checking the terms and conditions to see if there are any exclusions. You can find these on each retailer-specific page in the SkyMiles shopping portal.

As you can see with eBags, orders deemed to be used for reselling purposes are not eligible. You are also not eligible to earn bonus miles for purchases of items from the following brands: Fujifilm, Samsung, Briggs & Riley. Gift cards, gift certificates, luggage locator services, or monogramming are also not eligible.

Making Your Purchase & What Credit Card to Use

Once on the retailer's website, you can do your shopping and checkout just as you normally would.

While you need to have a Delta SkyMiles frequent flyer account to use the SkyMiles Shopping portal, there is no need to use a co-branded Delta SkyMiles credit card to pay. You can use any credit card you want, and you'll earn the bonus SkyMiles in addition to any points or miles you may earn on the credit card you pay with.

So when it comes time to check out, use whichever card in your wallet earns the biggest bonus per dollar for that purchase.

For example, the American Express Blue Business Plus card could be a good choice because it earns 2x American Express Membership Rewards points for every dollar spent up to $50,000 annually. And since Membership Rewards points can be transferred to Delta SkyMiles, that just adds to what you earned on your purchase through the portal. Going back to our eBags example, it would mean you effectively earned 8x SkyMiles for every dollar you spent. That's a great deal.

If you are using an American Express card, don't forget to check if there is an Amex Offer for your purchase. The American Express Blue Business Plus Card had an Amex Offer to spend $125 or more at eBags and get $25 back. This can be stacked with the portal bonus!

Getting Your Skymiles Bonus

A few days after completing your purchase, you should receive an email from Delta SkyMiles shopping confirming the bonus SkyMiles you earned from your purchase.

In our example, we spent a total of $78 with eBags. Because the purchase earned 6 Delta SkyMiles per dollar by shopping through the portal, it earned 468 Delta SkyMiles.

On top of that, by using the Amex Blue Business Plus card the purchase earned 156 American Express Membership Rewards points because it earns 2x points on all purchases up to $50,000 each year.

Since you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points directly into your Delta SkyMiles account,  this equals 624 Delta SkyMiles for spending $78 at eBags. This is basically a 25% SkyMiles bonus per dollar spent just by making a few extra clicks and visiting the SkyMiles shopping portal before making my purchase.

Bottom Line

There is no limit to how many Delta SkyMiles you can earn each year through the portal. By making a few extra clicks before making any purchase online, you can easily earn thousands of additional SkyMiles each year for shopping you are likely already doing.

All it takes is a Delta SkyMiles account – there's no need to use a Delta SkyMiles American Express card. And by using CashBack Monitor and installing the SkyMiles Shopping web browser plugin, you can make the process almost effortless.
