Delta is in the process of overhauling many of its old Boeing 767-400 planes, popular aircraft for flying to South America and Europe. They're getting a brand new business class seat, the airline's great Premium Select seats, and a facelift for Delta Comfort Plus and economy.

And now we've got a date for when these refreshed planes will first take flight. Delta announced Monday that this new plane will debut Tuesday, Nov. 12 flying from Atlanta (ATL) to London-Heathrow. Those tickets are on sale now, though don't expect a thrifty deal for the inaugural flight.

And they'll be on more routes fast. We'll see the revamped 767s flying from New York City-JFK (JFK) to LHR starting Saturday, Nov. 16 and from Boston (BOS) to LHR as of Wednesday, Nov. 20.

From there, we'll see these renovated planes flying to other European cities before eventually migrating to Southern destinations like Buenos Aires (EZE) and Sao Paulo (GRU). Other Delta hubs like Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and Detroit (DTW) will get them, too. Here's a look at the schedule for those flights.

A Look Inside the 767-400s

Delta initially hinted that these revamped planes would feature the outstanding Delta One suites, which we loved on a recent flight from Tokyo-Haneda (HND) to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP).

But that's not the case. Instead, these planes will be equipped with 34 overhauled business class seats in a 1-2-1 arrangement, but without the closing doors that define Delta One suites.

It looks like a massive upgrade over the ancient seats currently onboard Delta's 767. And for the long flights to Europe or South America, that's a major thing. You'll find many of the same Delta One suite features like storage and customizable in-seat lighting, along with an 18-inch TV screen.

Delta is also installing Premium Select, its name for premium economy, on these planes. There will be 20 seats arranged 2-2-2. Premium Select is a great middle ground for travelers who want extra space, more legroom, and better amenities without the massive price tag of business class.

These planes will also have 28 Comfort Plus seats and 156 main cabin economy seats onboard, all with a facelift that includes brand new seatback TV screens and mood lighting throughout the cabin. These cabins are laid out in a 2-3-2 fashion in economy – a great option for friends or couples to snag their own two-seat section for the long flight.

Bottom Line

The overhaul of Delta's 767-400s was direly needed, so it's exciting to see it's wrapping up. Look for more routes with these refreshed planes soon.
