Delta SkyMiles Deals and Flash Sales Are Cheaper than Ever

Using Delta SkyMiles can be tough. Its unpredictable and ever-changing award pricing means you sometimes need an exorbitant amount of miles to book a flight.

But Delta SkyMiles have one big advantage over almost every other airline: Delta SkyMiles Deals and flash sales. While most other airlines have rules for how low prices can go, Delta doesn’t. And that means it regularly sells flights within the U.S., to Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and elsewhere at huge discounts. Sometimes these sales are advertised; other times they’re secret – but we find them anyway.

And those sales have gotten cheaper than ever. Just within the last month or so, we’ve found round-trip fares to London-Heathrow (LHR) starting at just 14,000 SkyMiles. Most airlines charge at least 60,000 miles. Or what about 40,000 SkyMiles round-trip to Tokyo? Or 30,000 SkyMiles to China and back?

So much for Delta SkyMiles being worthless, right? Keep reading to see even more examples that showcase just how good these SkyMiles deals have gotten.

What are Delta SkyMiles Deals?

Big-time bloggers love to bash Delta for its dynamic award pricing, sky-high rates to fly business class, and unpredictability. And while that’s frustrating, these insane deals are the upside.

A quick lesson:

Years ago, Delta got rid of its award chart – the cheat sheet most airlines use that governs how many miles you need to fly from Point A to Point B. These days, that rate changes based on demand, time of year, cash price, and other factors. That means the amount of SkyMiles you need to book a flight can vary wildly.

That gives Delta the freedom to cut award rates however it sees fit. Call them flash sales or SkyMiles deals – call them whatever you want. They can be amazing.

If you’re flexible, willing to go wherever you can for a good price, these deals are unbeatable. There’s no telling when Delta will cut award rates on flights to the Caribbean islands. Or Mexico resort towns. Or top spots all across Europe. Or China.

Sometimes Delta posts these publicly on its ongoing list of SkyMiles Deals page. But we find even better, unadvertised deals and send them to our Thrifty Traveler Premium subscribers instantly. Read our full guide to decoding these SkyMiles deals and flash sales.

If you’ve got a stash of SkyMiles, there’s no better way to use them for maximum value. With many of these sales, you’ll get about 2-3 cents per SkyMiles. That’s about as good as it gets for Delta these days. And compared to what other ailrines

The good news is that Delta rarely makes you get on a plane last-minute to take advantage of these sales. Typically you have months – if not almost a year – to prepare for your trip.

The better news? Delta has been on an absolute tear recently with some of the best deals we’ve ever seen.

Unbelievable SkyMiles Deals

We won’t try to tell you about how good Delta’s SkyMiles deals have been these last few months. We’ll just show you.

We weren’t joking when we said there have been some incredible deals, and every single one is just from the last month or two. Many of these sales have since expired, but a few are still available.

In every single case, other airlines would charge double (and sometimes triple) the award rates listed here. As an example, a round-trip flight from the West Coast to London-Heathrow (LHR) would typically cost 60,000 American AAdvantage miles.

That’s why these SkyMiles sales are so great. They can help you get somewhere for a fraction of the normal cost.

How to Earn Delta SkyMiles

It’s time to pile up some SkyMiles to hop on the next SkyMiles deal.

Big changes are coming to this suite of cards in early 2020, including a slew of new benefits and modestly higher annual fees. But by opening one of these cards, you’ll get those new benefits for nearly a year – without paying the higher annual fees until you renew the card for a second year.

Bottom Line

There’s no better way to use your Delta SkyMiles than on one of these flash sales. And it seems the SkyMiles deals have gotten even better in the last few months.

Ignore the people who say Delta SkyMiles are worthless. Just don’t ignore these deals. They’re hotter than ever.
