Transfers from American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways are temporarily unavailable due to technical issues, American Express confirmed on Tuesday.

Thrifty Traveler first noticed that British Airways had disappeared as a transfer partner Tuesday morning, but the problem may go back farther. American Express confirmed those transfers were unavailable.

“We are actively working to resolve this issue and this service should be available again soon. We apologize for any inconvenience,” the company said in a statement.

Amex did not provide a timetable for when the transfers may resume.

British Airways has been a mainstay among Amex's transfer partner options. It regularly offers big transfer bonuses and can be a great way to book shorter flights within the U.S., from the West Coast to Hawaii, and elsewhere.

Bottom Line

We hope these transfers come back soon. Being unable to transfer points to British Airways would be a major blow to travelers with the Platinum Card from American Express and other top cards.
