Finding the award space to fly the world’s best business class seats isn’t always easy. But the slowdown in travel caused by coronavirus has changed that.

We’ve found a massive amount of rare Qatar Qsuites award space for 2021, with two to four (or more!) seats available most days from early January 2021 all the way through next April! From Los Angeles (LAX) to New York City (JFK) down to Miami (MIA) and everywhere in between, there is plenty of business class seats available from all of Qatar Airways’ U.S. outposts. There’s plenty of award space in late 2020 too, if you’re looking to fly a Qsuite earlier.

You can snag four Qsuites most days flying out of Chicago in early 2021

You could use this glut of award space to fly nonstop to Doha (DOH), of course. Or you could continue on elsewhere in the Middle East like wonderful Muscat, Oman or Jordan – and that’s a wise move, as you’ll get into Qatar’s incomparable Al Safwa first class lounge during your layover.

Either way, the best way to book is with just 70,000 American AAdvantage miles each way. And the best part is that this works nationwide – just start your search from your home airport with AA service, and you should be able to connect in domestic first-class before cozying up in your Qsuite across the ocean – all for just 70,000 AAdvantage miles.

Or you spend just 5,000 more miles and continue down to South Africa! American’s award chart carves out one of the best sweet spots in points and miles, allowing you to tack on the long flight to Johannesburg (JNB) or Cape Town (CPT) for just 75,000 AAdvantage miles total.

You’ll have Qsuites the whole way through – and that’s a lot of time in Qsuites. Just keep in mind South Africa doesn’t plan on allowing international tourists until at least February 2021.

With all the uncertainty, booking a big trip may feel risky right now. But you’ll have some flexibility so long as you book by June 30. After American delayed the launch of its new award fee policy until July, you can cancel your award and get your miles redeposited to your account for free. You can also change your travel dates (or even your routing) for free so long as your origin, destination, and class of service don’t change.

How to Find Flights & Book

This is easily one of the best uses of American AAdvantage miles you’ll ever find. And that’s exactly what you should do.

With this much award availability, it shouldn’t be hard to find the flights you want – whether you’re going straight to Doha, elsewhere in the Middle East, the Maldives, or beyond. Most of Qatar’s U.S. gateways have solid availability for at least two travelers – and in many cases, four or more.

There’s award space for two in Qsuites every single day but one from Jan. 1 through May 1, 2021, flying out of New York City (JFK).

Qatar generally flies Qsuites on all its U.S. routes, including Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Houston-Intercontinental (IAH), Philadelphia (PHL), Washington, D.C.-Dulles (IAD), and others. But there’s no telling if all these flights will be back in the air even by 2021 thanks to deep cuts triggered by coronavirus.

So your best bet is with routings that bring you through Chicago-O’Hare (ORD), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), and New York City (JFK), as Qatar has already resumed flights to those airports.

Finding the flights you want shouldn’t be a challenge. You can get an easy view of all this availability by using this link and doing a multi-city search. That’s the best way to get around American’s new (and inferior) award search tool and get a quick look at the dates that will work.

If you plan to stay in Doha, just add a random segment into Flight 2 and focus on finding the nonstop availability to Qatar. Otherwise, use this tool to zero in on the dates that work to get you to your final destination, be it elsewhere in the Middle East, Seychelles, or South Africa.

Once you’ve done that, just string it together in a one-way search with the date that works: JFK to Muscat (MCT), for example. And if you don’t live in one of Qatar’s U.S. hubs, just start your search from your hometown airport, like Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) or Cincinnati (CVG) to Muscat. It’s still just 70,000 AAdvantage miles for all three segments all the way to Oman!

How to Earn American Airlines Miles

Few credit cards offer a better, more lucrative welcome offer bonus than the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard. Just for opening the card, making a single purchase, and paying the $99 annual fee, you can earn 60,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles. These are some of the easiest miles you will ever earn.

Additionally, American Airlines is unique in the fact that they have co-branded credit card relationships with both Citi and Barclays thanks to the merger of American and U.S. Airways a few years ago. For the time being, American has made the decision to continue the relationship with both banks.

So you can also apply for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Card, which is currently offering 50,000 AAdvantage Miles after spending $2,500 within the first three months. The card’s $99 annual fee is waived in the first year.

This is significant because you can earn the welcome offer bonus on each card, netting you 110,000 American Airlines miles after paying one annual fee (the Barclays AAdvantage Red Aviator Card) and spending $2,500 on the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Card in the first three months of card membership. And that’s enough to get you to the Middle East or South Africa in Qsuites with this availability.

Bottom Line

This is some of the best award availability to fly Qatar’s Qsuites we’ve ever seen. You can book a future trip well into 2021 knowing you’ll have one of the best rides across the Atlantic Ocean available. And you’ll have the flexibility to change plans down the line if need be.

  • Any recommendations on vice versa? Im searching for DOH-USA in the same time periods and it is 100% empty in a lot of these city pairs.

    • Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is be vigilant and patient. Award availability ebbs and flows, particularly with Qatar. If you’re flexible, something will likely pop up. Just keep searching.

  • You’re right. Most of the Doha to US routes are full due to high demand. But I’ve seen them pop up closer to the flight dates. Wait a bit longer and you will be pleasantly surprised.
