Getting to Hawaii doesn’t get any cheaper than this.
As cash fares to Hawaii tumble through the spring and into summer 2021, we’ve also uncovered the cheapest award fares to Hawaii. We found this unpublished Delta SkyMiles flash sale to Hawaii with fares nationwide starting at just 14,000 SkyMiles round-trip into May 2021. That’s a fraction of what most airlines typically charge – including Delta – and less than most roundtrip domestic flights to Las Vegas or Chicago.
We sent this deal to Thrifty Traveler Premium members earlier this week, and availability has disappeared fast. But you can still find dirt-cheap flights to Hawaii using your SkyMiles on select dates into the spring. Hawaii is open for travelers with COVID-19 testing requirements – but officials have suggested they may eventually ditch that and allow vaccinated travelers instead.
Want more award alerts like this one? We send them to Thrifty Traveler Premium members first, along with dirt-cheap domestic and international flight deals.
You’ll find the lowest rates flying into Honolulu (HNL) into mid-May 2021, though you can also snag a deal flying straight to Maui (OGG) and there are slightly more expensive fares available into the spring and early summer.
Nonstop fares from Los Angeles (LAX) are the cheapest, but you can find great deals from other cities ranging from San Diego (SAN) and Seattle (SEA) to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and even Atlanta (ATL) … all under 25,000 SkyMiles round-trip. Keep reading for a full list of available departure cities!
The beauty of booking with SkyMiles goes beyond these ultra-low rates. Delta is offering free change or cancellation on all flights booked by March 30– including all SkyMiles award tickets. That means you could book today, then decide later on to cancel if necessary and get your miles back free without paying the usual $150 redeposit fee.
These low rates book into Delta’s basic economy fares – Delta began selling these no-frills fares even when using SkyMiles a few years ago, even on long flights to Hawaii. If you want to pick your seat free and board earlier, you can typically upgrade to a main cabin fare for 2,000 to 7,000 SkyMiles more.
While Hawaii is open for travel already, beware that the state’s COVID-19 travel restrictions can make your next trip to Hawaii more complicated whether it’s next month or next fall. They’re constantly changing, with a patchwork of different rules from state-to-state that can make island-hopping even more difficult. Getting the right test at the wrong time – or from the wrong provider – can still result in getting turned away at the airport.

But compared to the new requirements for international travel, getting to Hawaii is a cinch – there’s no need to worry about getting tested again before you make your way home. And it doesn’t get any cheaper than this: Even our tried-and-true ways to book flights to Hawaii using points and miles aren’t this cheap.
Thrifty Tip #1: When booking with SkyMiles, make sure to select “Flexible Dates” and “Price Calendar” to maximize the bookable dates and find the best deals.
Thrifty Tip #2: Load up your SkyMiles balance for the next deal – and get airport lounge access, too. You can earn up a whopping 225,000 points (or even more!) with the Platinum Card from American Express, then transfer those points over to Delta.
