How to Buy Champagne with Delta SkyMiles

Let’s get this out of the way. Mrs. TT and I love champagne.

Sadly, champagne generally doesn’t come cheap. Last spring, select Delta Sky Clubs around the country rolled out new menus which allowed guests to purchase various beverages with Delta SkyMiles. Generally, I would scoff at using my miles for anything other than flying, but this is actually a good deal if you’ve got some SkyMiles to burn.

Krug is Mrs. TT’s favorite use of SkyMiles

You can buy expensive (and delicious) bottles of champagne in the Delta Sky Club for as low as 10k SkyMiles. You get 2 cents per SkyMile, which is solid value. Krug is the value play in our opinion. Mrs. TT is a sommelier and she says Krug is generally considered superior to Dom Perignon by most critics, which is convenient because Krug is 2,500 SkyMiles less than Dom. If you’d like to splurge, you can even get a bottle of Cristal for only 13,750 SkyMiles.

  • Krug – 10,000 SkyMiles (retail $200)
  • Dom Perignon – 12,500 SkyMiles (retail $250)
  • Louis Roederer Cristal – 13,750 SkyMiles (retail $275)

This deal has been around since last spring, and we’ve taken advantage of it twice so far. The staff will also give you a bucket of ice if you’d like to drink your bottle away from the bar. I’ve even asked if it was alright if I opened the bottle at my table. Three staff members I’ve talked to have had no issue with it. Using this method we’ve been able to buy several bottles of champagne and take a few home with us. I assume we’ve just gotten lucky, and I doubt this will work everywhere, but it’s worth a shot.

Now not all Delta Sky Clubs offer a full bar and the ability to buy champagne with SkyMiles. You will have to find one with “THE BAR” service. You should be able to see the bottles of champagne behind the bar in the cooler. You can find the full listing below or at Delta.com.

Bottom Line

I realize this deal won’t appeal to everyone, but it’s a fun use of SkyMiles if you’d like to celebrate the start of your trip or to snag a bottle to take with you.
