As one of the world's oldest airlines and Australia's flag carrier, Qantas is no stranger to moving travelers around the globe. But in today's world of bigger and better premium cabins, how does the airline's business class measure up to the competition?

I tried out Qantas for the very first time on my return trip from Australia, while crossing something off my aviation bucket list: Flying in the upper deck of an Airbus A380. Having a lie-flat business class seat on a 14-hour flight is always a treat (no matter the airline), but there were a few things that left me disappointed, which will hopefully be fixed in the near future.

Even still, Qantas got a lot right on my recent flight, from the complimentary pajamas to the comfy lie-flat seat and friendly service, and I wouldn't hesitate to fly them again soon.

Take a look for yourself: I captured the entire experience flying from Sydney, Australia (SYD) to Los Angeles (LAX). I'll also walk you through how I used Alaska Airlines' Atmos points to book, saving thousands of dollars compared to the typical $4,000-plus cash fare.

As more airlines retire superjumbo jets like the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747, is it worth flying one before they are gone for good?
