There was a time when getting a free night using points & miles on the Las Vegas Strip was a tall task, if not impossible. But that's changed.

Thanks to partnerships between hotel chains and some of the strip's most famous properties, you can use points from hotel chains like Hyatt, Marriott, IHG, and Hilton to stay in Las Vegas. With Vegas back open for business and busier than ever, it's time for a rundown of the best hotels on the Las Vegas strip you can book with points – and how to earn those points.

In many cases that will save you some serious money on the Strip – especially when nightly cash prices are high. But keep in mind you may still be on the hook for Las Vegas' notorious resort fees, from $20 to $50 each night.

As always, be sure to check cash rates at these properties before you book! Prices for a stay in Las Vegas can vary wildly depending on the day of the week, time of year, and even the events happening in town.

Using World of Hyatt Points on the Las Vegas Strip

Thanks to an exclusive partnership between Hyatt Hotels and MGM Resorts, you can book all of the MGM-owned hotels on the Las Vegas Strip with World of Hyatt points.

Don't have Hyatt points? Don't sweat it. They're easy to earn from a few different credit cards.

With the World of Hyatt Credit Card, you will earn 30,000 World of Hyatt points after spending $3,000 within the first three months of opening the card. You'll also earn 2x points on all spending up to $15,000 spent in the first 6 months of card membership. That means you can earn 60,000 points total. Add in the free night certificate you'll get each year of card membership and the card can easily be worth the $95 annual fee.

Have Chase Ultimate Rewards points? Hyatt is one of the absolute best Chase transfer partners, which means you can transfer Chase points on a 1:1 ratio directly into your World of Hyatt account. That means one Chase point is equal to one World of Hyatt point. And if you don't have the card, right now you can earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending just $4,000 in the first three months of card membership.

Now that you know how to earn World of Hyatt points, let's look at some of the Las Vegas hotels you can book with them. To search and book MGM hotels with World of Hyatt points, you'll simply search and book through the Hyatt website.

Keep in mind that Hyatt has recently introduced peak and off-peak award pricing. That means it may cost more (or fewer) points each night depending on when you are looking to stay.

The Bellagio

A gem in the MGM portfolio and jewel on the Strip, the Bellagio is a category 5 property which means it has a base rate of 25,000 World of Hyatt points each night. That means it will cost as many as 29,000 points per night during peak times and as few as 21,000 points during off peak times.

A quick look at the points calendar in early July shows what this might look like. What you will pay will largely depend on when you stay.

As one of the more upscale properties in Las Vegas with its iconic water fountains, it isn't uncommon to pay $300 to $500 a night if paying cash depending on the dates of your stay. At 25,000 points, or even as many as 29,000 points, this is a great way to get a solid value for your World of Hyatt points.

The MGM Grand

The MGM Grand is another great option if you want to save some points. It can be booked starting at 15,000 points per night. Peak nights will cost as many as 18,000 points per night while off-peak nights will run 12,000 points each night.

And because the MGM Grand is a Hyatt category 4 hotel, you can also use the annual free night certificate offered by the World of Hyatt Credit Card for a free night stay.

Aria

One of my personal favorite properties on the Las Vegas Strip – and another gem in the MGM portfolio – is Aria. This hotel adds some upscale luxury to the Strip. Aria can be booked for 25,000 World of Hyatt points each night. Just like the Bellagio, you can find nights as cheap as 21,000 points per night or as much as 29,000 points each night.

The Park MGM Las Vegas

Another product of the Hyatt & MGM Hotels partnership is the Park MGM Las Vegas. Formerly the Monte Carlo, the Park MGM reopened within the last few years. The property can be booked starting at 15,000 World of Hyatt points each night. Peak nights will cost as many as 18,000 points per night while off-peak nights will run 12,000 points each night.

Again, because the Park MGM Las Vegas is considered a Hyatt category 4 hotel, you can also use the annual free night certificate offered by the World of Hyatt Credit Card for a free night stay.

New York-New York

The New York-New York is situated across the street from the MGM Grand on Las Vegas Boulevard. In my opinion, New York-New York offers one of the most fun atmospheres of all the hotels on the Strip. A night here can be yours for 15,000 World of Hyatt points. Peak nights will cost as many as 18,000 points per night while off-peak nights will run 12,000 points each night.

The Mirage

The Mirage is a classic on the Strip, with one of the best pools in Las Vegas and a central location. No matter what night you're heading there, you can stay at The Mirage for just 20,000 World of Hyatt points. Peak nights will cost as many as 23,000 points per night while off-peak nights will run 17,000 points each night.

Unfortunately, this option may not be around much longer. Late last year, Hard Rock Hotels purchased The Mirage from MGM.

Mandalay Bay & Delano

Located on the southern end of Las Vegas Boulevard is Mandalay Bay. It's another great property in the MGM portfolio that can be booked for 20,000 World of Hyatt points a night. The property is the home of the Michael Jackson ONE Cirque du Soleil show and one of the best pools on the Strip.

While the location isn't the most convenient on the Strip, it's a great property and a steal at 20,000 points per night. Peak nights will cost as many as 23,000 points per night while off-peak nights will run 17,000 points each night.

Not into the gambling scene? Check out the Delano Las Vegas, which is connected to Mandalay Bay. It's one of our favorite hotels on the Strip, and it doesn't have a casino.

The Delano will run you slightly more points than Mandalay Bay: 25,000 points per night for a standard stay, or as few as 21,000 points for an off-peak stay or 29,000 points during busier times.

Using Hilton Honors Points on the Las Vegas Strip

Hilton Honors points are another great option for booking a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. That's due in part to the fact that Hilton makes it incredibly easy to pool points with fellow Honors members, making award stays even easier. You can combine points with up to 10 other members, with few restrictions on who qualifies.

Or if you prefer to go at it alone, you can easily earn the points needed for a stay with a Hilton co-branded credit card like the *Hilton Surpass* or the *hilton honors business card*.

Another benefit to note: If you've got the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire card you can apply the card's up to $400 resort credit to many reservations at their Las Vegas Strip locations.

Let's take a look at the hotels you can book on the Las Vegas Strip with Hilton Honors points.

All information about the Hilton Aspire Card has been collected independently by Thrifty Traveler and has not been reviewed by the issuer.

Resorts World Las Vegas

The award for the newest property on the Las Vegas Strip goes to Resorts World Las Vegas, which opened in June of this year – making it the first new property on the Strip in more than a decade. The property is a massive resort and actually has three hotels inside, all of which can be booked with Hilton Honors points.

First is the Hilton, which can be booked for around 60,000 points each night. Then there is the Conrad Las Vegas, which will run you between 70,000 and 75,000 points each night. Finally, the top-tier property at Resorts World is the Crockfords Las Vegas. Expect to pay around 95,000 Hilton Honors points for a one-night stay.

One thing to consider about a stay at Resorts World is the location. It is located at the far northwest end of the Las Vegas Strip which can require a longer walk if you want to get back to the heart of the Strip. The location also makes it the furthest from the Las Vegas Airport (LAS).

The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas

In the fall of 2018, Waldorf Astoria took over the famed Mandarin Oriental property on the Las Vegas Strip. That means you can book one of the most luxurious properties on the Strip using points.

A cash night at the property will cost between $200 and $400 depending on the time of year and the events in town. But you can also book a night at the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas for around 80,000 Hilton points per night.

The Tropicana Las Vegas

While the Tropicana isn't the newest or most exciting hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, it does have a great pool with a solid location. It can also be booked for around 35,000 to 50,000 Hilton Honors points a night (depending on the time of your stay).

Using Marriott Bonvoy Points on the Las Vegas Strip

If you are looking to use Marriott Bonvoy points for a stay on the Las Vegas Strip, your options will be more limited than with both Hilton or Hyatt points.

You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points And American Express Membership Rewards points to Marriott on a 1:1 transfer ratio (1 point equals 1 hotel point) instantly.

Let's take a look at your options for the Las Vegas Strip.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

If you have a stash of Marriott points to burn, the Cosmopolitan is worth a look. The category 8 hotel is located in a prime location on Las Vegas Boulevard and is the largest property in Marriott's Autograph Collection. A night at the property can be booked for 70,000 Marriott Rewards points – give or take a few thousand points thanks to Marriott's recent introduction of dynamic award pricing.

Again, you'll want to understand what the cash rates are for your specific dates as they can vary wildly, and sometimes, a cash booking is cheap and makes more sense.

But you won't be able to use Marriott Bonvoy points here much longer. It was recently announced that MGM has acquired the operations of the Cosmopolitan which will go into effect at some point in 2022. At that point, it will most likely be bookable with World of Hyatt points instead.

Using IHG Rewards Club Points on the Las Vegas Strip

Like Marriott Bonvoy, your options will be limited when it comes to using IHG Rewards Club points for a stay on the Las Vegas strip. If you don't have IHG points, they can easily be earned by opening the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card.

You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG on a 1:1 transfer ratio (1 Chase point equals 1 hotel point) instantly, though it's not our favorite option.

The Palazzo & The Venetian

The Palazzo & The Venetian are some of the nicest hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. All of the rooms at both properties are considered suites, and a paid night at either property can easily run between $200 and $400 depending on the time of year and the events in town.

Thanks to their partnership with IHG Hotels, you can book a night at either property – though rates have gotten much more expensive recently. Expect to pay between 100,000 and 175,000 points per night. Rates can vary wildly depending on when you are looking to go.

Our Analysis

You may have noticed this list is dominated by Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, and IHG hotel points options. That's no accident.

That's because there are more options to get those points for a free stay in Vegas. You earn points in these programs through the co-branded credit cards, but they are also all transfer partners of the Chase Ultimate Rewards program. This means you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG, Hyatt, and Marriott on a 1:1 transfer ratio (1 Chase point equals 1 hotel point) instantly.

Among these chains, Hyatt is our favorite. While we wouldn't necessarily recommend transfers to either IHG or Marriott, it can make sense if you are topping off your account for an award booking. This makes holding cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve solid options for those who want to save money on a Las Vegas hotel stay.

One final note: Through a partnership with Wyndham hotels, it's technically possible to book hotels like Caesar's Palace and The Flamingo with Wyndham Rewards points. But after searching for availability, I wasn't able to find many dates that worked using Wyndham Rewards points. On top of that, earning points with the other hotel brands listed above is much easier as their co-branded credit card partnerships are stronger.

Bottom Line

Years ago, using points for hotel stays on the Las Vegas Strip was a struggle. These days, some of the best spots on the Strip are bookable using points. Additionally, Vegas can test the notion of whether you should use points or pay cash for a hotel stay. While using points is great, cash prices in Vegas are often very low – especially on weekdays.

Using points for a weekend stay in Las Vegas, on the other hand, could save you a boatload.
