Heart set on visiting Japan next year now that it’s reopened for travel? Here’s your chance to get there using your Delta SkyMiles.

We found the latest great Delta SkyMiles flash sale to get to Tokyo in 2023 for as low as 58,000 SkyMiles roundtrip! It’s not the deal of the century, as there are some better ways to get to Japan using points and miles. But if SkyMiles are what you’ve got, this is a major bargain – Delta typically charges 100,000 SkyMiles or more for these routes.

Thrifty Traveler Premium+ members got first dibs on this deal, as always. But there’s still excellent availability nationwide to get you to Japan and back for 70,000 SkyMiles or less next year – especially on the nonstop flight from Los Angeles (LAX), where you can book flights for 58,000 SkyMiles all winter, spring and into the fall of 2023!

Outside of Los Angeles, you’ll find plenty of availability at 60,000 or 70,000 SkyMiles roundtrip … but primarily in January and February of next year. For example, you can get from Seattle (SEA) to Tokyo-Haneda (HND) nonstop for 60,000 SkyMiles roundtrip.

Or start from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and get to Tokyo and back for 70,000 SkyMiles total with a quick stop in Detroit (DTW) or Seattle (SEA) each way.

You can even score flights all the way from Atlanta (ATL) to Tokyo and back for just 60,000 SkyMiles roundtrip – flying nonstop, to boot!

But this deal isn’t just available from the big Delta hubs. You can fly from almost any airport with Delta service nationwide for 70,000 SkyMiles or less: Albuquerque (ABQ), Austin (AUS), Duluth (DLH), Fargo (FAR), New York City (JFK), or Washington, D.C.-Dulles (IAD) … plus hundreds more!

The cutoff for many of these best deals is in late February, before travel to Japan picks up ahead of the spring and cherry blossom season. But Los Angeles (LAX) is an exception: Whether you want to head north to the mountains of Hokkaido for a ski trip this winter, catch peak cherry blossom bloom in Tokyo, or head for Japan next summer or fall, it’s wide-open at 58,000 SkyMiles roundtrip.

After nearly three years off-limits, Japan reopened to international travel in October … and Americans with proof of full vaccination can bypass any testing requirements, too. Even if you’re not sold on a trip to Tokyo just yet, don’t worry: These are Delta main cabin economy award fares – no stingy basic economy awards here. That not only means you get free seat assignment as well as a free checked bag. If you’re not 100% certain about a trip to Japan, you could book these fares for cheap now, then cancel and get all your SkyMiles (plus taxes and fees) right back for free!

All Delta routes fly into Tokyo-Haneda (HND), which is a win – it’s much closer to the city than Tokyo-Narita (NRT). And while this deal is flying economy, Delta operates its roomy and new Airbus A330-900neo on many routes to Japan, sporting a 2-4-2 arrangement that makes it ideal for traveling couples or companions.

Thrifty Tip: Got Delta Sky Club access? Be sure to check out Delta’s new lounge at Tokyo-Haneda before your flight home!

Bottom Line

If you’ve got a big stash of Delta SkyMiles and hopes of going to Japan, this is the deal for you.

These are the lowest rates we’ve seen for Delta roundtrip flights to Tokyo since the start of the pandemic. And while availability is limited to January or February from many cities, you can get to Tokyo for less than 60,000 SkyMiles throughout 2023!
