Deeply discounted Delta SkyMiles sales have made a comeback in the last few months. The latest one could get you to Europe this year or next for a fraction of the normal cost.

We unearthed a massive Delta SkyMiles flash sale earlier this week with flights to Europe through the winter and into spring 2024 for just 32,000 SkyMiles … roundtrip! Best of all, this is a nationwide sale: Whether you're flying nonstop to Europe from a major Delta hub or connecting from your small regional airport, you could score a huge deal. From London-Heathrow (LHR) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and even as far as Athens (ATH),  you can get to most major cities in Europe at these low rates.

As always, our Thrifty Traveler Premium members got first dibs on this deal when we found it. Some availability has disappeared and some award rates have increased a bit in the days since, but there are still some stellar SkyMiles deals to Europe out there.

Want award alerts to use your points and miles – plus cheap domestic and international flights sent to your inbox? Try Thrifty Traveler Premium now!

The savings here are enormous: Most airlines typically charge 30,000 miles (or much, much more) for a one-way flight in economy to Europe – and with Delta, you're more often to see rates of 100,000 SkyMiles roundtrip or more. Depending on where you're heading, these fares get hit with a reasonable $50 to $80 or so in taxes.

There are ultra-low rates whether you head to Rome (FCO), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Amsterdam (AMS), Lisbon (LIS), Madrid (MAD), or almost anywhere in Europe. The sweetest spot of all is flying into London-Heathrow (LHR), where you'll typically find the lowest rates – even for a trip as far out as May 2024. Otherwise, you're bound to find a better deal by booking your trip to Europe in February or early March.

Got a Delta SkyMiles card like the *delta skymiles gold card* in your wallet? You're in luck: You'll get the best deal thanks to the TakeOff 15 benefit. That 15% discount brings these roundtrip fares as low as 27,000 SkyMiles and change.

europe skymiles flash sale

Unfortunately, the lowest rates in this deal are on Delta's pesky basic economy award fares. That means you won't be able to pick a seat for free – and you'll forfeit a sizable 19,900 SkyMiles if you decide to cancel your ticket later on. It could be well worth the extra 13,000 to 16,000 SkyMiles to get free seat selection and cancellation to get all your SkyMiles back if plans change.

But the real beauty of this Europe SkyMiles sale is just how widespread it is. Whether you book a nonstop to Paris or London, start from a small regional airport with a connection, or head all the way to Milan or Athens, you can easily find roundtrip fares under 35,000 SkyMiles.

When you can fly from Fargo (FAR) all the way to Amsterdam (AMS) and back for just over 30,000 miles, you know it's a good deal.

Don't have the SkyMiles you need to book these flights? You might: Delta is an Amex transfer partner, so you can send points to your SkyMiles account from cards like amex_plat or the amex_gold instantly to your Delta account and book minutes later.

Most of these fares get hit with a reasonable $50 to $80 or so in taxes – though that clocks in closer to $200 roundtrip if you're flying in and out of London. Either way, that's a small price to pay when SkyMiles rates are this low.

Thrifty Tip #1: Got Amex airline fee credits to burn on cards like amex_plat? Use your card to book this fare and cover those fees!

Thrifty Tip #2: Make sure to use Delta’s “Price Calendar” feature when searching for award rates to find the best deals over a five-week span.

Bottom Line

Delta SkyMiles flash sales have been incredible lately, but this one might just take the cake.

Getting to Europe and back for half the miles other airlines charge is a steal. But the fact that this sale included almost every airport in the country, big and small? That's unbeatable.

These sales are one of the main reasons why we value SkyMiles more than most. They're truly the best way to use your SkyMiles. And the fact that you can lock in a trip to Europe for as low as 32,000 SkyMiles, then cancel it and get your miles back for free if necessary? You cannot beat that.

  • I can’t seem to find out how to search flexible dates. I never see that box to check. I even searched by money not miles as well.

    • First, make sure you’re using the desktop site and not via mobile. As you’re selecting your dates from the homepage for your search, look for a small box labeled “Flexible Dates” — tick it and it should pull up some flexible options.

  • The fights from BOS-LHR are such a find at 20k miles but require long (7 hour???) layovers at JFK or DTW. How do you make that layover worth it?

    • Try other dates or scroll farther down past the initial options. There are tons of BOS-LHR fares with quick connections or nonstop. I checked one date (Nov 13th) and found tons of options.

  • I am looking to travel to Rome (FCO) from Columbus (CMH) in April or May. The cheapest that I am finding is 62,000 points. Is that a pretty standard amount for a smaller airport like Columbus?

  • Are these special fares good for one-way flights from Europe, Paris or London back to the US? Seems if you want to use Points to book the flight the cheapest airfare and points is to utilize a Delta partner like KLM or Virgin Atlantic
