What started as a straightforward travel rewards program built around the popular *capital one venture card* has evolved into a powerhouse – one that now appeals to everyone from first-time travelers to seasoned points-and-miles pros.
Over the years, Capital One has leveled up its game in a big way. Its list of transfer partners has expanded dramatically, giving travelers more ways than ever to stretch their miles by sending them to top airlines and hotel chains. Then came the release of the *venture x*, a bold move that planted Capital One firmly in the premium travel card arena – putting it shoulder-to-shoulder with industry giants like American Express and Chase.
But Capital One takes it a step further: Unlike many competitors, it offers a near-unmatched perk – the ability to transfer Capital One miles not just between your own cards, but also between friends and family members.
So, how does it work? How can you pool miles across your own accounts or share them with someone else? We’ll break down everything you need to know to make the most of your Capital One miles.

How to Combine Capital One Miles Between Your Cards
Throughout the Capital One ecosystem of cards, there used to be two different currencies: Capital One Venture Miles and Capital One Spark Miles. Thankfully, the bank has dropped those monickers in favor of simply calling them Capital One miles.
Still, you might sometimes hear them referred to as Venture Miles or Spark Miles. Just know they're all the same thing.
Whatever miles-earning card you've got in your wallet, the process of combining them between accounts couldn't be easier. To get started, simply head to your online account and click on “Redeem” under the “Explore Rewards” block.
From here, you'll select the “Combine Rewards” option, which allows you to move Capital One miles from one of your credit card accounts to another.
If you have more than one account that earns Capital One miles, you will be presented with a drop-down list of accounts you want to transfer miles to. Once you select your accounts, you'll be asked how many miles you want to transfer. You'll have the ability to transfer all of the miles or just some of them.
Once you set up the transfer, the miles should be in the destination account instantly.
Can You Combine Miles Between the Venture and Venture X Cards?
If you already have a credit card that earns Capital One miles, like the *capital one venture card*, you can easily combine the miles with a new account, like the *venture x*. You'll use the exact same method laid out above.
Doing so is a great way to keep your miles intact if you decide to close an older card with a remaining balance of miles.
For example, if you currently have the Capital One Venture Card with 60,000 miles and decide to open the Venture X Card for its added perks and bonus, you can easily transfer those 60,000 miles over to the Venture X card before closing (or downgrading) your older Venture Card.

Can You Combine Cash Back With Miles?
The *Capital One Savor* is one of Capital One's best no-annual-fee cashback cards. It earns an unlimited 3% cash back at grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target), on dining, entertainment, and select streaming services. Additionally, you can earn 5% cash back on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental car purchases made through Capital One Travel, and 8% on purchases made through Capital One Entertainment. All other purchases earn unlimited 1% cash back.
If you hold this card alongside a card that earns Capital One miles, you can turn your cash back into miles: 1 cent gets you 1 mile. So if you have $500 of cash back, you could turn it into 50,000 Capital One miles, then use them to book travel. To do so, use the same “Move Rewards” function outlined above.
This Savor card makes a great companion card to either the Venture or Venture X cards, as you can use the Savor card in categories that earn increased cash back and then ultimately turn them into more valuable miles.
One of the best things about Capital One miles is how flexible they are. While the other big banks restrict who you can send points to – or block it altogether – Capital One miles can be easily shared with any other cardholders.
There's no limit on the number of miles you can transfer or receiver from another cardholders. There's not even a requirement that the person you are sharing miles with is related or lives at your address, as is the case when combining Chase points.
Here are the basics of sharing Capital One miles with another cardholder:
- You can transfer Capital One miles to other members as long as they have a credit card that earns Capital One miles
- There is no requirement that the person you are transferring miles to lives at the same address or is related to you in any way.
- There is no cap on the number of miles that can be shared with other Capital One cardholders.
- There are no expiration dates or other major restrictions on miles that are transferred to other cardholders.
That's more generous than any other major bank makes it to share points.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to do this online: You'll need to call the number on the back of your Capital One Card, but it's a relatively painless process. You'll be asked for the name and card number of the person's account you are transferring to and within minutes your transfer will be complete.

How Does This Policy Stack Up Against Other Banks?
It doesn't get any better than this.
When it comes to transferable points currencies like Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, and Capital One miles, Capital One has the most generous policy when it comes to combining points with other cardmembers, and it isn't particularly close.
- American Express doesn't allow you to combine Membership Rewards points with other members in any fashion, though you can transfer Amex points to an authorized user's frequent flyer or hotel loyalty account. Just know, you'll need to wait at least 90 days after adding an authorized user to make these transfers.
- Chase allows you to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to other members of your household, so long as they share the same billing address. In the past, we've been able to transfer to other family members with a different address, but it's no sure thing.
- Citi allows you to transfer ThankYou points to any other person who also holds a card that earns ThankYou points. But there's a major catch: Once the points are transferred from one ThankYou account to another, they will expire in 90 days – and there is nothing you can do to extend the expiration date. That means it's only a good idea to transfer when you're about to use those points for a redemption.

Bottom Line
Capital One makes it easy to combine and share Capital One miles. That's true whether you are looking to combine all of your points and cash back across your own accounts, or if you want to combine or share miles with a family member or friend.
They have the most generous policy across all the banks with transferable points and miles – and it isn't particularly close.
I have one college age son that has a capital one venture one visa and another that has a capital one savor visa. The one with the capital one venture one visa qualified for the chase sapphire preferred when it had the great welcome bonus a few months ago. I am considering having him cancel his venture one and just keeping the sapphire preferred. Should/can I have him transfer his points to my son that has the savor one and just leaving him with the sapphire preferred? Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi Cecilia! Yes, he should be able to transfer the points to your son that has the Savor without issue. Though it would be wise long term to have him get a VentureOne (or Venture) as it will make those points worth more.
I cannot find much info on the Venture X Business reward miles and being able to transfer the miles to a regular Venture X account. Both accounts under the same name and login credentials. Looking to add the Venture X Business card if this is feasible. Thanks for your help in advance.
