If you’re counting down the days to Amazon’s annual Prime Day – or in this case, Prime Days – we’ve got you covered. Prime Day this year runs from Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Wednesday, Oct. 14.
It’s much later than the typical July Prime Days we’ve grown accustomed to, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. But we’re still expecting some of the same massive sales and money-saving tricks that make Prime Day so lucrative.
Here’s how we recommend getting ready to bargain hunt – or even start your shopping a little early.
Participate in Pre-Prime Day
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you get early access to some exclusive deals. Get a head start on the Prime Day specials with some of these exclusive Pre-Prime Day Deals.
You’ll find hefty discounts on some Amazon products, like saving 50% on an Amazon Echo Show 5 for just $44.99. Or get an Amazon Fire Fire TV Stick 4K for 50% off – just $24.99 – by entering the promo code 4KFireTV at check-out. You can also snag several TVs at steep discounts, like a 55-inch Toshiba UHDTV equipped with Amazon Fire for $299.99 – $150 off!
Remember: You’ll need an Amazon Prime membership to be eligible for these pre-sale discounts. If you’re not ready to pay the $119 annual fee for Prime, sign up for a free 30-day trial!
Prep for the Travel Deals
Last year, Prime Day was hot for deals on travel accessories. Our fingers are crossed for an equally exciting Prime Day 2020! These were some of our favorite Prime Day deals from last year:
- 20% off the Trtl travel pillow, a fan favorite.
- 25% off a great all-in-one travel adapter for electronics.
- A great pair of Sony wireless noise-canceling headphones for $89 – more than 50% off!
- $45 off the Kindle Paperwhite, one of the best e-readers
- 36% off our favorite portable charger
…and much more!
Rack up Some Amazon Credits
Spending on Prime Day is much easier when you’re using free credits, right? And cheaper too.
Amazon has added a handful of ways to quickly earn some credits for your Amazon account, allowing you to stack credits with Prime Day discounts and save even more. Check them out:
Shop Small Businesses to Earn $10 Off
Spend $10 or more at select small businesses between now and Monday, Oct. 12, and you’ll earn a $10 credit to use during Prime Day. Check Amazon’s dedicated page for this promo to find a list of all the businesses that qualify.
Spend $10 at Whole Foods, Get $10 Off for Prime Day
Amazon owns Whole Foods, and that means you can save even bigger on Prime Day during your next grocery run. Spend at least $10 at Whole Foods (in-store or online) by Oct. 14, and you’ll get a $10 credit to use during Prime Day. Learn more here!
Get up to $20 in Credits Shopping through the Amazon App!
Not everyone will be eligible for this one, but it’s a big one.
Make your first purchase through the Amazon smartphone app (rather than online), and you can earn a $10 credit on your purchase of $20 or more during Prime Day. And you may even be able to do it twice. Check to see if you’re eligible!
Watch a Prime Video, Get $5 Off
Amazon Prime members get Amazon Prime Video for free. And if you log into your account and watch just one video, you may get a $5 credit!
It’s unclear whether this particular credit is targeted to new users or if it’s universal.
Shop at Physical Amazon Stores to Earn Much More!
Amazon has a handful of brick-and-mortar locations scattered across the U.S. There are Amazon Fresh stores, Amazon Go, Amazon Books, and more. If you’ve got one of these locations nearby, you can:
- Earn a $10 credit after spending $10 at an Amazon Go store.
- Spend $10 at an Amazon Books or Amazon Pop-Up store, earn a $10 credit for Prime Day
- Earn another $10 credit after spending $10 or more at an Amazon 4-Star location.
- Stop into an Amazon Fresh store and spend at least $10 to earn yet another $10 credit for Prime Day.
Stack with Credit Card Offers to Save More
American Express, Chase, and Capital One have ongoing promos allowing you to save even more at Amazon by applying just a single credit card point to your purchase.
- Save 30% to 40% on your Amazon purchases by using an Amex Membership Rewards point. Read more about this promo here.
- Get up to $20 off your Amazon purchase of $80 or more by using Capital One Venture miles at check-out! Read more about this Capital One promo.
- Use a single Chase point on your Amazon purchase to get $15 off a purchase of $50 or more. Read more about this Chase promo.
Thrifty Tip: Got an Amex card? Look for an Amex Offer to earn 5x Membership Rewards points on your Amazon purchases!
Use the Right Credit Cards
Make the most of your purchases on Amazon Prime Day by using the right card.
And right now, we feel there is no better option for making Amazon purchases than the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card. Depending on when you applied for the card, you could earn as much as 3% cashback on your first $20,000 of spending for the first year of card membership. Otherwise, you’ll earn a solid 1.5% cashback. And best of all, the card has no annual fee.
If you hold the Chase Freedom Unlimited card in conjunction with either the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you can transfer the cashback you earn into Chase Ultimate Rewards points. That’s why we always suggest pairing a Chase Freedom Card along with your Sapphire Card.

Another great option for your Amazon Prime Day spending is the Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express. The card also does not have an annual fee and earns 2x Membership Rewards points for every dollar you spend up to $50,000 annually. It earns 1x point per dollar after that.
