It's less than two weeks until the inaugural Delta A350 flight from Detroit to Tokyo. I'll be on the inaugural flight in the new Delta One suite (lead photo), and to say I'm excited is an understatement. Everyone is going to want to fly Delta's new bird and there will be plenty of opportunities in 2018. Good news is that Delta announced two new A350 routes this morning.

New Delta A350 routes:
  • Detroit – Amsterdam (DTW – AMS) 1x daily starting March 31, 2018
  • Detroit – Shanghai (DTW – PVG)  1x daily starting April 19, 2018

Previously announced routes:
  • Detroit – Tokyo Narita (DTW – NRT) 1 daily starting October 30, 2017
  • Detroit – Seoul Incheon (DTW – ICN)  Alternating days starting November 18th, daily from December 16th
  • Detroit – Beijing (DTW – PEK) Alternating days starting January 17th, daily from February 23rd
  • Atlanta – Seoul Incheon (ATL – ICN)  March 24, 2018

You're going to want to keep an eye out for flight deals on the new Delta A350 routes. Thrifty Traveler Premium covers all those routes and we'll make sure to let you know if one of the new routes is on sale. Even in economy, the new seats and entertainment screens are worth keeping an eye out for.

Thrifty Tip: I'd recommend booking bulkhead seats if at all possible in rows 30 & 40/41. Legroom for days.

Economy looks great with beautiful new entertainment screens and AC power at every seat. This is a significant improvement over the seats you're used to in Delta's long haul fleet.

Delta Premium Select

If you are booking any trips to Asia next year, you'll want to take a look at Delta's new Premium Select product. Premium Select is bookable for only 99k SkyMiles round-trip. The best part is all your domestic connecting flights (to Detroit) will be upgraded to First Class. I’d recommend booking ASAP on this one as I'm still dumbfounded that Delta is still offering this new product for so few SkyMiles.

Bottom Line

Airbus is quickly rolling out Delta's A350 orders and Delta isn't wasting any time announcing new routes for 2018. If you are planning any trips to Asia or Europe in 2018, you're going to want to consider flying Delta's new bird. It's leaps and bounds ahead of many of the other US legacy carrier's aircraft. I know I'm already planning several flights on the new bird in 2018.
