Southwest Airlines is out with yet another big sale, selling flights throughout the U.S. from just $40 each way – or just 1,908 Rapid Rewards points!
With this latest Southwest sale, you can book deeply discounted Southwest flights for travel during the following windows this fall and winter.
- Oct. 29, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2025 for flights within the continental U.S.
- Oct. 29, 2024 to March 5, 2025 for Hawaii and Puerto Rico flights (excluding inter-island Hawaii flights)
This sale could be your cheap ticket for weekend trip to Denver (DEN), Las Vegas (LAS), or Phoenix (PHX) or a visit to anywhere Southwest flies! But no matter where you're at, you'll need to act fast: This sale ends at 11:59 p.m. PST today, Oct. 3.
Read our guide to finding and booking the best Southwest deals!
This sale is rare because it offers 40% off almost every Southwest route during the sale dates, with just a few blackout dates to be wary of. Whether you have a trip in mind or already have a Southwest flight on the books, it's worth checking to see if you can take advantage of this sale.
One thing to note: There are quite a few blackout dates for this sale, primarily around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, to be aware of, although exactly which dates are excluded depends on where you're flying. You can see all the blackout dates on Southwest's website.
Plus, now that Southwest fares appear on Google Flights, you can search for these fares using the world's best airfare search engine! The sale flight prices are showing up automatically in Google Flights, meaning you likely won't have to use the promo code “SAVEWOW” to search for and book these flights. Just follow the Google Flights links to book directly with Southwest.
You can also head straight to the Southwest sale page, pull up Southwest's Low Fare Calendar, and get a month-long view to find the best deals. Use promo code “SAVEWOW” to have the best fares appear, although they've been populating automatically as of Tuesday morning.
Already have a Southwest flight booked for later this year? You can easily rebook it online and pocket the difference as a Southwest credit – and those never expire! Thrifty Traveler Reporter Gunnar Olson did that with his upcoming flights to Denver (DEN) and now he has an extra $89 to put towards a future Southwest flight.
The deals vary from airport to airport, but you'll see the $40 rates on the cheapest Wanna Get Away fares for Southwest's shorter, nonstop routes.
The easiest way to put it to use is for a cheap, nonstop flight to one of Southwest's major airports like Denver (DEN), Las Vegas (LAS), or Phoenix (PHX), like this flight from Salt Lake (SLC) to Colorado for just $80 roundtrip!
And since using Southwest Rapid Rewards points hinges on the cash price, these lower fares mean you could get an even better deal using points and miles to book a Southwest flight this fall or winter. We alerted Thrifty Traveler Premium members to these dirt-cheap award fares to Denver (DEN) from just 3,816 Rapid Rewards points roundtrip!
Plus, right now you can sign up for one of Southwest's Rapid Rewards credit cards for a sign-up bonus of up to 85,000 points! That's about 40 roundtrips to Denver or Salt Lake City if you so choose.
Southwest is also a Chase transfer partner, so you can send Chase points from cards like the *chase sapphire preferred* to get the Southwest points you need to book these award flights.
Keep reading to see how to take advantage of this sale before it ends at 11:59 p.m. PST on Thursday, Oct 3.
