American Express has spent the last few years piling more and more “coupon” style credits into its top cards, like the *amex gold* and the *amex platinum*. Credits for dining at Resy-participating restaurants are among the biggest and easiest to use … but some recent changes have us worried that could change.
In an update quietly added to cardholders' statements that was first spotted by Doctor of Credit, Amex notes that in order to put those statement credits to use, a restaurant “must be indicated as eligible for the Resy Credit on the Resy website or the Resy app at the time of purchase to qualify for the benefit.” Plus, whether a restaurant is or isn't eligible for using a credit is “subject to change at any time.”
That change is effective Aug. 1, 2026.

The reason why these Resy credits – up to $50 semi-annually on the Amex Gold and up to $100 each quarter on the Amex Platinum, plus monthly installments on two of the top-tier Delta SkyMiles cards – are so valuable is that they're so easy to use: More than 10,000 restaurants in the U.S. qualify … and that'll jump to 25,000-plus once its integration with Tock is complete. Compared to the few hundred restaurants eligible for a similar credit on the *chase sapphire reserve*, it's a cinch.
But this raises the prospect that only a portion of Resy's 25,000-strong restaurants will actually work going forward. That would only make it harder to use up these credits – and, depending on how often that list changes, more unpredictable.
Resy has already begun labeling restaurants – and, at least for now, virtually all of them appear to be in the clear.
But what if that changes over time and restaurants eventually decide to opt out? Or what if that big batch of Tock locations says “No thanks, Amex”?
The prospect of eligible restaurants changing from year to year or even month to month is troubling. I've inadvertently used the dining credits on my Amex Gold Card several times, but this will add yet another layer of homework to ensure you can use them.
Bottom Line
This is a small change that could have big ramifications for how you use your Amex cards' Resy statement credits.
We'll have to wait and see whether this is much ado about nothing or a warning that Resy credits will become much harder to use.
