Airbnb is on a roll.
The home rental platform has been branching out to activities and experiences in the past years, including Airbnb Experiences – tours and day trips – and Airbnb Adventures – fully planned trips. First, Airbnb honed their offerings with something cuddly: Animal Experiences.
Now they're kicking things up with cuisine: a spotlight on Cooking Experiences.
What Are Airbnb Experiences?
Before we dive in, a quick word on Airbnb Experiences. These are experiences around the world with local hosts and guides that make booking a food tour, walking tour, or day trip easier than ever. You don't need to be staying in an Airbnb to book an Experience.
All hosts and guides are vetted for quality services, and you can read reviews and see photos from past participants for each activity.
If you're looking for unique activities and adventures to supplement your next trip, browse the Airbnb Experience options for the city you're traveling to. Learn the culture and traditions from the locals who know it best.
Thrifty Tip: New to Airbnb? Sign up using our link and you will receive $40 towards your first stay, or $15 off an Airbnb Experience of $50 or more.
What Are Airbnb Cooking Experiences?
There have always been cooking classes on Airbnb Experiences. But Airbnb is now highlighting these experiences as some of the best ways to truly get to know the culture and cuisine of your destination. What better way to get to know the traditions of a region than making their most famous foods with a local?
There are thousands of Cooking Experiences around the world, from making pasta with an Italian grandma to preparing sushi with a local chef in Tokyo. You can browse the Cooking Experiences by region, type of cuisine, or location. Hosts offer cooking classes in their homes, on farms, and in nature.
There are thousands of cooking experiences to choose from! If you have a trip coming up and want to add a special cooking experience (or just feel like daydreaming), browse all the Cooking Experiences.
Unique Cooking Experiences
Since Airbnb just recently made their Cooking Experiences category live, they've announced a few fun partnerships and opportunities.
First, they're offering pop-up cooking experiences in cities around the world with local celebrities like chefs, TV personalities, and more. And the craziest part? Some of these pop-ups cost as little as $2 a person! Want to cook Italian family recipes with Mara, judge on X Factor and Italia's Got Talent? Tickets will become available soon, so keep an eye out and book these unique opportunities to cook with celebs!
Airbnb has also partnered with Slow Food to create delicious classes that focus on sustainably sourced food. These experiences are a unique way to learn more than just how to cook a few dishes.

Win a Cooking Scholarship to Italy!
To kick off the launch of Cooking Experiences with a bang, Airbnb is sending 100 home cooks to Slow Food Institute’s University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy. Winners will get to stay on these grounds (a UNESCO World Heritage site!) for a week, perfecting their own family recipes.
They'll be accompanied by special chef guests, including chef David Chang and his mother. At the end, family recipes from those 100 home chefs will be published in the first-ever Airbnb cookbook and sent to hosts around the world!
Know a home chef that deserves to go? Nominate a home chef (or yourself!) for this unique cooking scholarship of a lifetime.
Airbnb continues to refine and specialize their Airbnb Experiences, and there are so many amazing activities and adventures to choose from. These Cooking Experiences give travelers an opportunity to connect with local chefs and hosts over something that carries so much tradition, culture, and history: food. Incorporate a cooking class into your next adventure!
