Earning points as normal when you stay at a Hilton – or not earning points at all? You're doing it wrong. Hilton almost always has an ongoing promotion to earn double (or more) points on hotel stays. And its latest rendition is among the best yet.
Hilton Honors recently announced its Power Up promotion, which is good for hotel stays from Sept. 7 through Dec. 31. By signing up for this latest promo, all Hilton Honors members will earn double points on their Hilton stays through the end of the year.
Got a co-branded Hilton credit card like the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card or the top-tier Hilton Honors Aspire Card? You'll earn triple points when you pay with your card. Plus, travelers with Hilton Honors status will continue earning their own bonuses.
These promos can massively accelerate how many Hilton Honors points you earn on paid hotel stays. That helps offset Hilton's fairly lackluster points program – Hilton's unpredictable and often sky-high award rates mean cashing in your Hilton Honors points won't get you as far as other Hotel programs.
Whether you've got a Hilton stay later in 2021 on the books or not, it's a no-brainer to register for this promotion, since you won't earn these bonus points if you don't register for the promo beforehand.
How the Hilton Power Up Promo Works
Let's put this Power Up promo in action with a handful of examples to show you just how much this promo can help you pile up extra Hilton Honors points.
Let's say you're just an everyday Hilton Honors member with a two-night stay at a Hilton property in Chicago this fall, paying $150 per night. Without this promo, that stay would earn you 3,000 Hilton Honors Points.
So long as you registered to Power Up in advance, that exact stay would earn:
- Base points: 10 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 3,000 Hilton Honors Points
- Promo bonus: 10 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 3,000 Hilton Honors Points
- 6,000 points total
But maybe you've got Hilton Honors Gold Status – one of our favorites – from racking up previous Hilton stays or carrying the Platinum Card® from American Express. On that same two-night stay in Chicago, you would earn:
- Base points: 10 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 3,000 Hilton Honors Points
- Status bonus: 8 bonus points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 2,400 Hilton Honors Points
- Promo bonus: 10 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 3,000 Hilton Honors Points
- 8,400 points total

But the best is reserved for top-tier Hilton members who pay with a Hilton co-branded credit card, as that gets triple points through this promo. So booking that exact same Chicago trip using a Hilton Honors Aspire Card – which unlocks instant Hilton Diamond Status – you would earn:
- Base points: 10 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 3,000 Hilton Honors Points
- Status bonus: 10 bonus points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 3,000 Hilton Honors Points
- Promo bonus: 20 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 6,000 Hilton Honors Points
- Credit card bonus: 14 points per dollar X $150 X 2 nights = 4,200 Hilton Honors Points
- 16,200 points total
That is a ton of points for a two-night stay. At the very top end, you're earning a whopping 54x points by maxing out this promo. But no matter how far you can get, it's worth registering to earn double Hilton points (at the very minimum) through the end of the year.
Bottom Line
Depending on your status and what's in your wallet, this new Hilton Power Up promo can be incredibly lucrative. But no matter what's in your travel plans through the end of the year, it's easy to register for this promo to rack up Hilton points faster on any hotel stays through 2021.
