United and American Airlines are both making big bets on Europe next year, each launching a half-dozen or more buzzy new routes to fun, far-flung cities. Delta is sticking to some tried-and-true additions.

The airline on Friday unveiled just a pair of new routes to Europe on tap for next summer: Boston (BOS) to Venice (VCE) and Detroit (DTW) to Athens (ATH). The airline already announced a route connecting Austin (AUS) with Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) earlier this year.

Delta also said it'll begin a handful of season summer routes even earlier next year, like kicking off nonstops to Rome (FCO) from both Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and Detroit in March 2027 – a month or more ahead of schedule. 

Two new routes to Europe – three, if you count an (admittedly exciting) addition from Austin? All to cities where Delta already flies from other hubs? What gives?

While its competitors are still doubling down on Europe, Delta executives have signaled it's tapped out across the pond and increasingly looking over the Pacific Ocean instead: It's adding Manila (MNL) to the map and has been reportedly circling Singapore (SIN) for more than a year. Plus, the airline hasn't ordered the narrowbody Airbus A321-XLR planes capable of making these long flights to Europe, meaning their options are more limited.

So for now, here's what's coming up for next year for Delta.

 

Nonstop from the Northeast to Venice

  • Boston (BOS) to Venice (VCE)
  • 4x weekly flights starting May 7, 2027
  • Seasonal, ending Oct. 29
  • Operated on an Airbus A330-300

This will be Delta's third nonstop flight to Italy's famous sinking city. 

The airline already flies seasonally to Venice from Atlanta (ATL) and year-round from New York City (JFK).

Delta's older Airbus A330s might not be flyers' favorite – especially up in business class – but they're a treat for economy class passengers, thanks to a 2-4-2 arrangement in the back of the plane that makes it perfect for traveling companions. Plus, these planes are expected to be retrofitted in the coming years. 

Adding Venice gives Boston flyers a 12th nonstop Delta route across the pond – and a third to Italy, including Milan (MXP) and Rome. The airline is also bumping up its Boston-to-Rome route to daily service next year.

 

And One More to Athens

  • Detroit (DTW) to Athens (ATH)
  • 3x weekly flights starting June 8, 2027
  • Seasonal, ending Oct. 28
  • Operated on an Airbus A330-200

Greece, anyone? 

Delta's new nonstop from its Detroit hub to the Greek capital will be its fourth, joining New York City, Boston, and Atlanta. It'll be Detroit's 12th long-haul international route and its seventh over to Europe. 

 

Starting Summer Earlier

While Delta is going light on new additions to its European map, the carrier said it's kicking off a handful of seasonal routes even earlier.

That includes: 

  • Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to Rome (FCO) will kick off in early March
  • Detroit (DTW) to Rome (FCO) resumes in early March
  • Seattle (SEA) to Rome (FCO) returns in April
  • Flights from New York City (JFK) to Catania (CTA), Porto (OPO), Prague (PRG), and Copenhagen (CPH) all resume earlier
  • Boston (BOS) to Barcelona (BCN) starts earlier, too
  • As does Seattle (SEA) to Barcelona (BCN)
  • Same with Atlanta (ATL) to Edinburgh (EDI)
 

Bottom Line

Delta isn't going big on Europe for 2027, but it is doing more.

New routes from Detroit to Athens and Boston to Venice are the big highlights for next summer for Delta.
