Delta just revealed another new summer seasonal route for 2026, adding a new nonstop flight to Porto, Portugal (OPO) beginning May 21, 2026.
Just last week, Delta unveiled two new nonstop routes to Sardinia (OLB) and Malta (MLA) – both on the airline's smaller Boeing 767 airplanes. The new route to OPO will also be run on a 767 – the plane the airline normally uses to experiment with new routes. Delta previously announced new service from Boston (BOS) to Madrid (MAD) and Nice (NCE) and Seattle (SEA) to Barcelona (BCN) and Rome (FCO) for next summer as well.
But it's not all good news: According to schedule data from Cirium Diio, Delta cut 2026 routes to Berlin (BER), Brussels (BRU), and London-Gatwick (LGW).
“Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta.
Delta already runs seasonal nonstop service from Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK) to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS), and the airline's first foray into northern Portugal will also be served from JFK starting in May.
Currently, United and TAP Air Portugal serve OPO nonstop from the U.S. – both from Newark (EWR). TAP also operates a BOS-OPO route seasonally. In 2024, Azores Airlines operated infrequent service from BOS and JFK to OPO as well, so Delta's effort isn't the first try at a JFK-OPO flight.
With four airlines (American, Delta, TAP, and United) flying nonstop to mainland Portugal from the U.S. next summer, including 10 different nonstop flights from TAP alone, there will be record capacity flying to Portugal – making for a great environment for cheaper fares and better points and miles availability in 2026.
Bottom Line
Delta Air Lines will fly from New York (JFK) to Porto, Portugal (OPO) starting in May 2026 – the airline's 7th new route to Europe announced for next year.
The service complements Delta's flights to Lisbon and will be the second OPO option for New Yorkers after United's Newark (EWR) service, too.
