Delta plans to fly nonstop to Hong Kong (HKG) in 2026, about eight years after the airline last served the Southeast Asian hub.

The new daily route will link Los Angeles (LAX) to Hong Kong starting June 6, 2026, on one of Delta's flagship A350-900 aircraft with Delta One Suites, Premium Select, Comfort, and a regular economy cabin.

It won't be Delta's first nonstop flight to Hong Kong.

The airline last flew there from Seattle (SEA) but ended service in 2018 after a four-year stint. Before that, Delta flew from Detroit (DTW) to Hong Kong for three years but stopped in 2012. The carrier also operated a funky fifth-freedom flight between Tokyo-Narita (NRT) and HKG until 2016.

When nonstop service resumes, Delta will join Cathay Pacific and United as the only carriers flying from the U.S. to Hong Kong – both carriers also offer service from Los Angeles (LAX). Cathay offers nonstop flights from Boston (BOS), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), New York City (JFK), Chicago-O'Hare (ORD), and San Francisco (SFO) while United offers another flight from San Francisco (SFO).

When this new Hong Kong route launches, it will only be Delta's third nonstop from Los Angeles (LAX) to Asia – joining the daily flight to Tokyo-Haneda (HND) and the service to Shanghai, China (PVG). Overall, it's Delta's fifth Asian destination on top of HND, PVG, as well as Taipei (TPE), and Seoul (ICN).

Delta flyers out of LAX will get to use the terminal's massive new Delta SkyClub (if they have access) or the terminal's brand new Delta One Lounge if they're flying up front.

A Shot at Chicago, Too

In its announcement about the new route from L.A. to Hong Kong, Delta also announced another nonstop destination from Los Angeles (LAX): Chicago-O'Hare (ORD). The new route to Chicago will begin June 7, 2026, with three flights per day.

While the service isn't anything special onboard a regular 737-800, the addition of the route directly competes with the likes of American and United.

Delta already serves Chicago-O'Hare from all of its hubs and opened one of the best Delta SkyClubs in the country in O'Hare's cramped Terminal 5 a few years ago, but the addition of L.A. is a shot across the bow at its main competitors for some valuable business and leisure travelers going between Chicago and Southern California.

Bottom Line

Delta will add its fifth Asian nonstop destination when it launches Los Angeles (LAX) to Hong Kong (HKG) service. The new daily service will be onboard the airline's flagship A350-900 when it begins in June 2026.

Delta will also begin nonstop flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Chicago (ORD) next summer.
