One of the most popular perks of top-tier travel cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is the Priority Pass Lounge access that you get. But that benefit goes beyond lounges: You can even eat free (or nearly free) at many Priority Pass restaurants, too.

Over the years, Priority Pass has steadily added a number of airport restaurants in the U.S. (and even abroad) to its portfolio to supplement traditional lounge options. With your Priority Pass membership, you can visit these restaurants and get a credit toward your meal of up to $28 or $30 – plus another credit for up to one guest, too.

While many cards from other banks like American Express and Capital One offer Priority Pass membership as a perk, Priority Pass memberships issued through Capital One lost that perk to kick off 2023. American Express cards no longer include restaurant credits, either. That means the best way to get the full spectrum of Priority Pass lounges and restaurants is with the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card.

Read on for everything you need to know about how the Priority Pass restaurant credit works – and where you can find these restaurants.

What Is Priority Pass?

Priority Pass is a club that gives members and their guests access to an independent network of airport lounges. As of publication, there are over 1,200 lounges in 500 cities across 130 countries worldwide.

Thrifty Tip: Download the LoungeBuddy mobile app. This is a great way to navigate the world of airport lounges. It will even give you directions to lounges and restaurants you have access to.

How To Get Priority Pass Membership

The easiest way to become a Priority Pass member is to hold one of the credit cards listed below. But not all of these cards include access to both Priority Pass restaurants and lounges. Memberships issued through American Express no longer include restaurant credits as of August 1, 2019. Capital One and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card also lost access to Priority Pass restaurants as of Jan. 1, 2023.

How To Use Priority Pass Restaurant Credits

Using Priority Pass restaurants with your lounge membership is extremely simple. You just go to one of the restaurants and dine as usual. Your Priority Pass just gives you a discount on the final bill.

On a recent trip through Boston (BOS), Thrifty Traveler reporter Gunnar stopped in Stephanie’s in Concourse B – one of two Priority Pass restaurants in the airport. The other, Jerry Remys, was outside security and was actually closed when I went to check it out.

At Stephanie’s, like most Priority Pass restaurants, you get $28 off your bill if you are alone … or $56 off your bill if you are with a registered guest.

Before heading inside, I double-checked with the host to make sure Priority Pass was accepted. She pointed me to this small sign in the front of the restaurant that showed that it was.

Another, much bigger sign next to that one reminded visitors that American Express Priority Pass memberships no longer feature Priority Pass restaurants. Given the prominence of this sign and the fact that it was right in front of the host stand, I’m guessing the staff dealt with that question a lot.

Priority Pass American Express notice

In order to get access to many Priority Pass restaurants, you’ll need the version of Priority Pass you get with other credit cards mentioned above. Before my trip, I had a Priority Pass membership through The Platinum Card® from American Express. In order to gain access to Priority Pass restaurants like Stephanie’s, however, I had to get a new Priority Pass account through my Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card account.

It seemed like a hassle, but it really wasn’t a big deal, because both cards cover the cost of my membership. I didn’t have to cancel or deactivate my old account or anything, I just simply signed up for a new one through Capital One at Prioritypass.com/capitalone. At the site, I popped in my new credit card number and registered a new username, making sure it was different than my American Express Priority Pass username. I was even able to use the same email address as my old account.

I registered like normal and my account was active in a matter of minutes. I could have done it at the airport standing in front of Stephanie’s.

Priority Pass bill

Note: Be sure to have access to your departing flight number, as Priority Pass requires you to “check-in” when paying the bill like you would at an airport lounge. It’s not a big deal at all, but it just caught me off guard.

I wanted my order to be right around $28 to avoid paying too much for my meal, so I chose a hearty Caesar salad and a Sam Adams beer for my quick Stephanie’s lunch. The total came out to $28.89, so my final total after the Priority Pass discount was $0.89.

One thing that’s crucial to remember when using Priority Pass restaurants is that you still need to tip your waiters and bartenders based on the total price, not the Priority Pass-adjusted total. When I paid this bill, I made sure to calculate a tip based on the $28.89 balance and not the $0.89 adjusted balance.

A number of Priority Pass restaurants have dropped off the program because pass holders weren’t tipping staff properly. Don’t make this program a headache for staff so we can all reap the benefits!

Bottom Line

As long as you have a Priority Pass membership that isn’t issued by American Express, you will have access to dozens of restaurants in the U.S. and abroad.

These Priority Pass restaurants are a great addition to the lounge network’s offering. If you frequent any of these airports, these restaurants can be an easy way to help offset the cost of annual fees for the credit cards that include Priority Pass membership. And in many cases, it’s nice to get a full meal rather than simple lounge snacks.

    • Thanks! It is dependent on the membership you have affiliated with the credit card. It will be tied to your Priority pass membership card. As long as you have your card, you will receive the restaurant benefit for you and a guest.

      • Priority Pass Select, if we talk about Chase Sapphire Reserve benefit. Still, confusing a little bit. “E.g. if a Cardholder registers 1 Guest they will receive US$56 off their bill which will be charged as 1 Cardholder visit + 1 Guest visit on their account.” We have sent an e-mail to Priority Pass support as there is no field (to register) on desktop/mobile account page on Priority Pass. It cannot be, authorized user on credit card Chase Sapphire Reserve, as there is no indication of this affiliation on the account page on Priority Pass website.

        • You are registering with the actual restaurant for this guest benefit. Not Priority pass. There is no registration of guests required for the regular lounges either. Basically when they scan your membership card upon entry, it will tell them how many guests you are allowed based on your Priority Pass membership. Since none of the restaurants offer more than 1 guest, it doesn’t matter which membership you have as they all offer at least 2 guests.

  • This might be the smallest benefit yet, still, it is something… A new lounge has opened up at Paris, France’s Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) whereby one will receive a €10 credit to purchase food, beverages…etc upon using Priority Pass for access to the YotelAir lounge at CDG’s terminal 2E.

    • Thanks for the information and tip. I am going to keep this off of the list as this doesn’t appear to be a full restaurant as the credit can only be used for light refreshments and snacks.

      • Sounds about right… And in all honesty, having been through CDG numerous times €10 would barely buy a small snack and a beverage. Thanks for all the other tips though…

  • Hello. So I have 5 guests, will it cover $28 x 5 if I can bring unlimited guests with Chase Reserve? Thanks.

      • That’s not true. Several times I have received $84 off with one priority pass for my wife and son at Timberline in Denver. Different versions as well – sometimes from Prestige and sometimes from Amex Platinum. Unsure if it’s different at other airports.

        • So you are using multiple priority pass memberships to get the credit? Or just using different memberships each time? The terms and conditions state up to 2 credits ($56) but I am sure this varies location to location. Good to know

          • Just using one PriorityPass card per time. I think the terms really just say 1 guest as an example. I’m not really sure the limit is even at 2 guests, as I think I’ve heard stories of people bringing larger groups, but haven’t done that myself . I can see why 2 would be a limit since that’s often how many guests you can bring to a normal PriorityPass lounge.

  • II Viaggio (SLC) told me today that they only had the Priority Pass vouchers for a week before the SLC airport told them to stop. So, you can’t get the vouchers in SLC anymore, at least for now.

  • If you have a short connection can you call ahead and order “to go” for your next flight then use the priority pass for the bill?

  • Can you apply for this card if I already have the Preferred? I have had the Preferred for two years, just booked a trip using points. Ready to move on the the Reserve but I don’t want to cancel the Preferred.

    • Hi Haley. Unfortunately, you will not be eligible to open the Reserve as a new account. Chase doesn’t let you get either card if you have earned the bonus on either card in the past 48 months. However, you can call Chase and do what is called a product conversion. Essentially turning your Preferred card into the Sapphire Reserve.

  • Outdated information presented here with regard to PDX. Presently there are no restaurants accepting PP emembership (including Westward Whiskey)

  • There are still many major airports where there is no Priority Pass restaurantes or lounges with food. Philadelphia comes to mind.
It is the second largest city on the East Coast yet Priority Pass only has a Minute Suites lounge there. Shameful.

      • It is bad that LAX doesn’t have anything that a Priority Pass would allow us in, no PP-affiliated lounges nor restaurants, just a couple of Gameaway stores. What a pity, especially considering that LAX is one of the busiest airports in the world that many travelers frequent.

  • any idea if ALL restaurants, which participate in PP allow account holder + 2 guests (3 people total)?
Or do some PP restaurants allow only 1 guest (2 people total)?
    thanks!

  • Great explanation and information. But I believe you are missing a restaurant located in the Providence Rhode Island airport (PVD).

  • Very very late to this , but any idea of showing your digital PP pass works? It’s got a QR code after all! (My physical card is in America at the moment and I am not)

  • Does the restaurant credit “refresh” for every visit? I.E. if I visit a restaurant in the first week of January and use the credit for a flight, would I then be able to use the credit for another flight the second week of January? Thanks for the insightful post!

    • Hi Michaella. Yes, there is no limit to how many times you can use these. You shouldn’t have any issue.

    • I guess Nick has been too busy to answer this question. No bother, according to OMAAT, Bar Pulpo is included.
