If you’ve been looking at booking a Southwest trip for the holidays or early next year, American Express just added a new Amex Offer worth your attention: Spend $300 or more directly with Southwest Airlines and get $60 back. That’s 20% off your first $300 in Southwest purchases, and you’ve got until Dec. 31, 2026, to use it.
You don’t need to hit $300 in a single purchase, either – the terms let you get there across multiple purchases made at southwest.com, through the Southwest app, or even onboard.
Flights must originate in the U.S., and the $60 is a one-time statement credit, so you can only earn it once per card.
Like all Amex Offers, this one is targeted, so not everyone will see it in their accounts … but several members of the Thrifty Traveler team are seeing it on the American Express Platinum Card®, which also earns 5x points per dollar spent on airfare booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel®.
Just be sure to book directly with Southwest, since Amex Travel bookings won’t count toward this offer. Even if you don’t have a Platinum Card, it’s still worth toggling through every Amex card you carry (including business cards) before writing it off.
Where to Find Amex Offers
If you haven’t used Amex Offers before, think of them as digital coupons exclusively for Amex cardholders, good for everything from airfare and hotels to dining and everyday shopping.
To check if you’re targeted, log into your American Express app and tap “Offers” at the bottom of the screen. On the desktop version of the American Express website, you’ll find Amex Offers about halfway down the homepage, where you can see every offer currently available, which ones you’ve already added, and your lifetime savings with the program.
If you have multiple Amex cards, you’ll need to toggle through each of them, since the offers can be different on every card. Once you see one you like, add it to your card and make a qualifying purchase with that card. The statement credit should post within a few days.
Thrifty Tip: Amex displays a maximum of 100 offers at a time. If you’re not seeing the one you want, try adding a handful to your card, logging out, and then logging back in to see if new ones appear.

Bottom Line
Getting up to 20% back on Southwest flights is an easy win if you’ve got a booking to make before the end of the year. Check your Amex cards and add this offer now before it disappears … then make your Southwest purchases by Dec. 31, 2026.
