After years of anticipation, we were excited to see Mexico's first Park Hyatt location, the Park Hyatt Los Cabos at Cabo del Sol, accept reservations for stays beginning Aug. 1. Then, in early February, Hyatt quietly started accepting reservations for stays as early as July 1.

We were a bit skeptical, as it is incredibly rare for a brand-new hotel to open on time – much less a full month early. As it turns out, that news was too good to be true. As first reported by Travel on Points, Hyatt has now delayed the opening of the Park Hyatt Los Cabos to August 28, citing unforeseen construction delays.

The property is contacting guests with existing reservations before August 28 with an offer to relocate to a nearby comparable hotelThe Cape, a Thompson Hotel. While that is certainly a nice property, it's no Park Hyatt, which will likely lead to many guests canceling their reservations altogether

We'll have to wait and see if the property does in fact, open on August 28, but if you're interested in a stay, booking a stay as far out as September or October is likely a safe bet. Bookings are currently available all the way out into May 2026.

The resort will have 163 guest rooms, including 88 suites and three ultra-luxurious villas, complete with kitchens and their own private lap pool. Meanwhile, the hotel's suites boast of features like private plunge pools, and patios or terraces with breathtaking views of the resort of the Sea of Cortez.

There are five dining options on-site, ranging from the resort's signature restaurant, which features Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, to Mexican street food. There are also a couple of poolside bars and a bodega coffee shop for your morning caffeine fix.

While this property will be perfect for couples looking to have a romantic getaway, family travelers will no doubt appreciate that the Park Hyatt Los Cabos features a “Camp Hyatt” kids' club. This means you can drop the kids off for a day of fun while you lounge by the pool or get in a round of golf.

Ready to book a stay for yourself? Prepare to pay for it. Park Hyatts are the hotel chain's top brand, so it's not shocking that cash rates here are averaging $1,000 per night. Ouch!

But fortunately, you can use points to book a stay here instead of paying that high nightly rate. This new Park Hyatt is a Category 8 property in the World of Hyatt program, meaning a free night here will cost between 35,000 and 45,000 points per night, depending on whether the date is designated as peak or off-peak

Finding award availability here could prove to be tricky but as soon as award space opened up, our Thrifty Traveler Premium Hotel Alerts subscribers were the first to know about it.

Bottom Line

Citing construction delays, the Park Hyatt Los Cabos is now accepting reservations for stays beginning Aug. 28. But will that opening date stick? That remains to be seen.
