On Thursday, November 19th, Starwood hotels will be opening the doors of their new Westin Denver International Airport property. The hotel, which began construction in 2012, will be part of the new hotel and transit center at Denver International. The property also features an outdoor plaza and a public transit center that will offer rail service to Union Station in downtown Denver (expected to start in April 2016). This is exciting news for frequent travelers to the Denver area, as there are currently very few options for travel to and from Denver International and the downtown area. The overall development plan also provides infrastructure and connections for future terminal and rail service expansion.

It’s no secret that we here at Thrifty Traveler love Starwood properties and the SPG program, so naturally we were thrilled to get a sneak peak of the 519 room property, including 35 suites, last week before the November 19th grand opening.

We must say the Westin is very impressive. The grand lobby will feature a full bar with fantastic views of the mountains, runways and the main terminal of Denver International Airport.

The bar and restaurant makes for a great place to have a cocktail and do a little planespotting before checking in for your flight. This looks to be a nice change from your typical depressing hotel bar!

Each of the guest rooms features floor to ceiling windows that offer fantastic views of the Rocky Mountains and the surrounding plains.

The property will also feature a WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio and also an indoor swimming pool with incredible views on the 11th floor.

There will be 37,500 square feet of function and conference space, which will make this a great location for business meetings and social events alike. Event space like this currently doesn't exist around Denver International, so this beautiful property will be very attractive for business event planners.

The property will also consist of multiple dining venues serving a variety of cuisines including a fine-dining restaurant (Grill & Vine) directly below the lobby at plaza level.

Bottom Line

This Westin Denver International Airport will be a fantastic upgrade for travelers to and from Denver International airport, and will provide great access to downtown Denver via the RTD East Rail line, which will begin service in April 2016. Point redemptions look to be starting at 12,000 a night, which can provide great value considering all the property has to offer. Book your reservation starting November 19th.
