Southwest Airlines has announced a new status match promotion. Per Miles to Memories, the airline is offering their A-List status for 90 days to anybody with any level of status with any other airline.

Southwest will even extend the matched status for an additional 12 months if you can complete three round trip or six one way flights with the airline 90 days after your A-List status enrollment has been confirmed.

This complimentary promotional A-List promotion is available to you if you have not received promotional A-List status in any other promotion in the last 12 months. The airline offered a similar promotion last June, so if you took advantage, you will not be eligible this time around.

Our Analysis

This is a great promotion and an easy one to take advantage of if you hold status with any other airline. To maximize the offer, it would be wise to wait until you can take advantage of the extended status offer (book three round-trip flights). By doing this, you can earn A-List status for an additional year.

Southwest's A-List status isn't earth-shattering, but not having to remember to check-in for your flight 24 hours in advance is worth its weight in gold in my opinion. I often forget to do this and end up in the C boarding group which all but solidifies my fate in a middle seat towards the rear of the aircraft.

Bottom Line

Because I am a Delta Platinum Medallion, I will most certainly take Southwest up on this status match offer. I have a few scheduled trips with the airline this spring and A-List status will make those travels more enjoyable.
