If you spent big with Delta last year – on flights, vacation packages, or one of the airline's co-branded SkyMiles cards – it's time to reap your rewards.

Earlier this week, Delta began notifying Medallion elite status holders that they could start ordering their annual brag bag tags. Rather than simply mailing out bag tags en masse as they have in years past, the airline started allowing Medallion members to customize their bag tags with a name or nickname last year.

Even after Delta's status blowback a couple of years ago, flyers still wear their Medallion Status like a metaphorical badge of honor. And with these metal luggage tags, they can wear it as a physical badge of honor, too.

Here's what they're like and how to order yours.

How to Claim Your Delta Bag Tags

Whether you're a top-tier Delta Diamond, vaunted Million Miler, or merely stuck with lowly Silver Medallion Status, current Delta Medallion members can order their metal bag tags at DeltaMedallionTags.com.

You can enter your name, a nickname, or even choose to display how long you've been a SkyMiles member on these tags. There's also space on the back to fill out some contact information – a feature most airlines' bag tags are missing, making them borderline useless as an actual, you know, bag tag in the event your luggage gets lost.

Once you've placed your order, expect them to arrive in six to eight weeks – every order comes as a set of two tags.

It may not be much, but it's a nice and popular touch among Delta diehards – walk through any hub like Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), Detroit (DTW), and especially Atlanta (ATL), and you're bound to see plenty of these tags on backpacks and luggage. They've even spawned knock-offs and parodies on Reddit.

Just know: If you want a bag tag from Delta, you have to order them – the airline no longer automatically mails them out to all Medallion members. That's probably the point, and a way for Delta to come out ahead even on these nicer tags.

“Please note that failure to opt-in and select a bag tag before the end of the Medallion Year will result in no bag tag being mailed to you,” the airline warns on its site.

Bottom Line

Delta’s Medallion bag tags are back – but they’re no longer a surprise in your mailbox. If you earned elite status last year and want the metal tags to prove it, you’ll need to log in and order them yourself.

With the option to customize your tags with a name, nickname, or SkyMiles tenure, they’re a small but popular perk for loyal Delta flyers. Just don’t forget to opt in: If you don’t place an order before the Medallion year ends, you won’t get a set at all.
