Iberia Promo: Get to Europe for Just 25.5K Miles RT – or 51K in Biz!
If heading to Spain in style is on your list, you may never find a cheaper way to get there.
FrequentMiler first reported that the Spanish airline Iberia is running a great promotion, selling award tickets to Madrid (MAD) for just 25,500 Iberia Avios round trip in economy. You can fly from New York City-JFK (JFK), Boston (BOS) or Chicago-O’Hare (ORD) with Iberia with this 25% discount when using Iberia miles.
But it gets even better. You can fly to Madrid (MAD) in Iberia business class for just 51,000 – or 25,500 Avios each way. Considering most airlines charge at least 70,000 miles for a one-way to Europe in business class – and Delta recently hiked that to 105,000 SkyMiles – this is an absolute steal.
It’s only eligible for travel between Sept. 1 and Dec. 14, and you have to book by March 27 to get this discounted rate. One-way and round-trip flights both qualify for the discount. Check out the promo page for more details.
Iberia already offered one of the cheapest ways to get to Europe using miles before this discount. Thanks to its great award chart – which sets prices based on distance rather than miles – you can get to Madrid and back from the East Coast and Chicago-O’Hare (ORD) for just 34,000 Avios in economy or 68,000 in business class.
Flying from West Coast? No problem. You can also hop on an Iberia flight from Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO) and still get a 25% discount, which works out to 31,500 Avios each way in economy.
How to Book
Don’t have Iberia miles? Don’t worry, they’re easy to get. You can quickly transfer 17,000 points from a stash of Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express points, as well as some Marriott Rewards points. Those transfer partners make Iberia Avios some of the easiest miles in the world to pile up.
The one catch here is that Iberia, like many airlines flying in and out of Europe, passes on some sizable cash fees for award tickets. Expect to pay about $200 in fees for your ticket. But for western Europe, that’s reasonable. Other airlines pass on $500 or more in fees.
The one thing to keep in mind here is that it needs to be an “off-peak” date in order to price out this low. Luckily, Iberia is insanely generous with its definition of off-peak: Nearly every day from September through mid-December makes the cut. Scope out Iberia’s calendar for the full breakdown.
It should be pretty easy to zero in on the “Blue Class” economy fares to get the ultra-low, 25,500-mile price. But finding a business class fare may require some extra legwork. But it’s worth it: Iberia business class is a comfortable way for the long flight across the Atlantic. You’ll get direct access to the aisle, a lie-flat bed, great meals, and a full list of Spanish wines to sip on.
Unfortunately, Iberia’s website isn’t the easiest to use. It will require some trial and error on Iberia’s award search engine to find a round-trip fare in business class – though it shouldn’t be too hard to find a one-way to Europe in business class for just 25,500 Avios and about $86 in fees.
If the dates work and Spain has been on your bucket list – or you want a great starting point to explore the rest of Europe – you may never find a cheaper way to get there than this promotion. Book it before it expires March 27!
