Flyers with a stash of Delta SkyMiles are used to seeing sky-high rates when trying to book a business class seat to Europe. One-way flights for 250,000 SkyMiles or mile are the norm these days … but not right now.

You can fly from almost any airport in the U.S. to European cities big and small in Delta One business class for just 148,000 SkyMiles round-trip, with great availability this fall and into early 2023. It might not be the cheapest way to get to Europe in business class, but it doesn't get better than this with Delta SkyMiles. You can find those rates whether you search nonstop from a major Delta hub or airports nationwide, flying into the likes of Rome (FCO), Amsterdam (AMS), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), London-Heathrow (LHR), Madrid (MAD), and many more.

Delta announced this sale on Tuesday on its SkyMiles deals page – but, as usual, it’s far bigger than the airline is letting on. We let Thrifty Traveler Premium subscribers know just how many options there are. And though some fares are gone, there's still plenty of award space available.

Delta One deal

Want more award alerts like this one? We send them to Thrifty Traveler Premium members first, along with dirt-cheap domestic and international flight deals.

But you may want to book soon: Delta says these lower award rates only last until midnight today, Wednesday, June 29. That means you've got just a few hours left to lock in flights to Europe for 148,000 SkyMiles before they might cost you double that amount.

If you're set on flying lie-flat to Europe this summer using SkyMiles, we're seeing a few flights available from major hubs like New York City (JFK) or Boston (BOS). Otherwise, your best bet is focusing from September through early January to find flights for 148,000 SkyMiles roundtrip.

Thanks to a permanent change from Delta, you'll even earn Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs) and Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs) toward Delta Medallion Status on these award tickets. And you'll earn a lot of them: In some cases, nearly half of what you need to hit Silver Medallion status on a nearly free flight!

Most of Europe is open today, and many countries have dropped testing requirements and even proof of vaccination. Still, you'll want to check out our country-by-country entry restrictions guide for the latest requirements. You could even see two destinations in Europe for the price of one by using Delta's “Multi-City” search tool. It's a great way to maximize your European travels – especially because intra-Europe flights (and trains) are so cheap.

Most airlines charge at least 70,000 miles each way for a business class seat to Europe. But considering Delta typically charges triple that or more for a one-way ticket, this is a steal. Best of all, you can cancel these award fares at any time for free to get your SkyMiles and taxes and fees back. Even if you're on the fence about these flights, you could lock in a bargain now and cancel down the road if necessary.

Thrifty Tip: Have The Platinum Card® from American Express? Use the $200 airline fee credit to cover the taxes and fees. This works as long as you have Delta selected as your preferred airline.

Want to fly the best Delta One suites? Look for flights on the new Airbus A330-900neo or the Airbus A350-900 – they're marked Delta One suites, equipped with Delta's flagship seats complete with closing doors. Your best bet to find these birds is on major routes to cities like Amsterdam, Paris, and London. Otherwise, Delta's newer Boeing 767-400s have better interiors than what you'll find on other Delta jets.

Besides the spacious, comfortable seat, Delta One flyers also get to enjoy free lounge access, priority boarding, checked bags, and business class food and drink service.

Need SkyMiles to book this deal? If you've got some American Express Membership Rewards points from cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express or the American Express® Gold Card? You're in luck: Delta is an Amex transfer partner, which means you can instantly transfer 148,000 points to your Delta account to get all the miles you need.

Otherwise, you can load up on miles to catch the next great Delta SkyMiles flash sale. Delta and American Express are currently offering welcome bonuses of up to 100,000 miles on their suite of SkyMiles credit cards.

Delta SkyMiles Flash Sale Availability

Bottom Line

If you've been stockpiling Delta SkyMiles, this is the Delta One sale you've been waiting for.

Delta might be advertising this deal, but the fact of the matter is that it's better than the airline is letting on – much, much better. Though Thrifty Traveler Premium members got the first shot at booking these nationwide deals, there's still seats out there to get to Europe and back in lie-flat seats this fall and beyond.

This is as good as it gets flying business class with Delta SkyMiles. If you're thinking about it, don't wait: Delta could pull these rates at midnight.

  • Great article and info. I unfortunately was waiting for miles to transfer from Amex and missed the midnight deadline. Do you know if the offers continue?? Appreciate your feedback before I waste my time trying.
    Thank you
