🗝️ The Key to Getting Better SkyMiles Deals
Delta SkyMiles can feel like a moving target – one minute prices are sky-high and then a can’t-miss deal the next. But there’s a pattern savvy travelers can use to their advantage … if they’re just a little patient.
Take this recent Minneapolis (MSP) to Chicago (ORD) flight, our executive editor, Kyle, was tracking. He and his wife had already booked it months ago for over 12,000 SkyMiles each – nothing outrageous, but not exactly a bargain either.
Then came the magic moment: A Google Flights Price Alert landed in his inbox showing the cash price had dropped to just $69.
Naturally, he raced over to Delta.com to check award rates … and found them basically unchanged at 11,700 SkyMiles. Not ideal.
So instead of jumping the gun, he waited.
About 10 hours later, he checked again – and there it was. The same exact flight had dropped to just 4,100 SkyMiles. Jackpot!
Since he had booked Main Cabin fares (key detail!), he canceled his original tickets, got all the miles back, and then rebooked at the lower rate. Total savings: roughly 12,000 SkyMiles – not bad for doing next to nothing.
Here’s the takeaway: Delta’s award pricing doesn’t always update instantly when cash fares drop. There’s often a lag – sometimes a few hours, sometimes closer to a day. If you see a price drop, don’t rush to rebook right away. Set a reminder, check back later, and let the SkyMiles pricing catch up.
A little patience can go a long way – and in this case, it paid off in thousands of miles saved.

🏨 Get Up to 150K Points & a $250 Credit with a Marriott Card
Marriott and American Express just sweetened the pot on their lineup of co-branded credit cards … and with six options split between Amex and Chase, there’s a lot to consider before pulling the trigger.
The headliner: The *bonvoy brilliant* is dangling a welcome offer of 150,000 points & a $250 statement credit for hitting $6,000 in spend in the first six months. It also carries a $650 annual fee, which only makes sense if you’ll actually use perks like the $300 dining credit and the annual free night award.
If that’s too rich for your blood, the *Bonvoy Bevy* is out with an offer to earn 125,000 points and a $150 statement credit after spending $5,000 in the first six months. It has fewer benefits than what you’ll find on the Bonvoy Brilliant, but it also has a much more reasonable $250 annual fee.

🥂 Cheers: Delta Ups its Champagne Game in Delta One Lounges
Look, I’m never going to turn down a free glass of bubbles before a big flight abroad, no matter what kind. It’s just part of the experience.
But something stood out to me at a Delta One Lounge last year: For all the airline’s hubbub about exclusively pouring fancy Taittinger champagne for business class passengers onboard, why not serve the same in its exclusive lounges … rather than a bottle that sells for less than half the price?
But fear not, champagne snobs and Delta fans! All is right with the universe: Delta is now serving Taittinger at all its Delta One Lounges.
I spotted it on the menu (and in beverage carts) myself at the Seattle (SEA) Delta One Lounge last week … and as a man of both journalism and science, I tried a glass or two.
After some online sleuthing, it seemed that Taittinger had spread to both Los Angeles (LAX) locations as well as New York City (JFK). And then Delta confirmed it directly with us: The airline is pouring Taittinger at all its Delta One Lounges nationwide … after a change it made way back in April, actually.
So we’re just a casual four months behind on this story. Better late than never, right?
Is this the biggest deal in the travel world? No. Does this make Delta One Lounges or the airline itself significantly better? Also no.
But hey, a win’s a win! I’ll cheers to that.
