American Express is adding a new perk to its top-tier business cards – in a clear sign of where things are headed.
Buried inside a much bigger announcement about new cards and software, Amex revealed it will soon offer up to $300 per year in statement credits for ChatGPT Business subscriptions on *biz platinum* and the *biz gold*.
It’s a relatively small – but notable addition – and another example of how Amex continues to reshape its cards around a growing list of targeted credits that cardholders have to actively use to justify the cards' ever-rising annual fees.
Amex says this will be the first card benefit tied directly to a ChatGPT subscription when it launches sometime this spring – an exact date hasn't been revealed.
As with most Amex perks, enrollment will be required – meaning you’ll need to opt in before using the credit.
What’s still unclear is how the credit will be structured. Amex often splits benefits like this into monthly chunks, though this could end up being an annual reimbursement. Just as importantly, we don’t yet know whether this new perk will come alongside an annual fee increase – something Amex has frequently paired with added benefits like this.
Considering the Business Platinum just had a revamp and fee hike last year, it seems unlikely that we'll see that card get more costly so soon … but all bets are off with the Business Gold. Amex sent out a survey to Business Gold cardholders earlier this year with a whole slew of proposed changes – including this new $300 ChatGPT credit – and a new $495 per year price tag. That would be a considerable jump from the current annual_fees annual fee (see rates and fees).
If this all sounds familiar, that's because it is. Amex has long been the king of “coupon book” perks – stacking its premium cards with credits tied to specific categories like dining, travel, wireless bills, and software. This new credit fits squarely into that playbook: a targeted benefit that only delivers real value if you were already planning to spend in that category.
For most businesses, the real-world value will be limited. A ChatGPT Business subscription costs about $300 per user annually … and requires at least two users. That means this credit will likely cover just part of the total cost, not the full subscription – making it more of a partial rebate than a true free perk.
And if you’re not already paying for ChatGPT (or don't want to), this is just another benefit that'll go unused – adding to the growing list of credits cardholders have to actively manage to get full value from these cards.

Bottom Line
Amex is adding up to $300 a year in statement credits for ChatGPT Business subscriptions to its Business Platinum and Business Gold cards sometime later this spring.
While the details are light, it should be an easy win for businesses already paying for ChatGPT. For everyone else, it’s just another credit to keep track of … and a clear step in Amex’s ongoing shift toward stacking niche, third-party credits onto its cards.
