Back in June, American Express hastily announced it would update both *amex platinum* and *biz platinum* later this fall. The news was light on details: No specific benefits or timeline were shared – just an announcement that changes were on tap for the coming months.
Now we know at least one changing benefit … and when the big upgrade is likely to come down.
On Thursday, the astute Redditor u/OneCasualBrowser noticed new (since-deleted) terms on Amex's Fine Hotels + Resorts® (FHR) booking page that listed an annual $600 credit (split into two $300 semi-annual chunks) for Amex Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders. Perhaps more importantly, that bigger credit was said to begin Sept. 18, 2025 – a strong signal that's when the entire card update is coming.
That addition was quickly scrubbed from Amex's site, but not before it was captured.
Could this be a sign of what's to come? A hotel credit three-times the size of what Platinum cardholders currently get? And extending that same credit to small business owners, too?
American Express has repeatedly declined to confirm exactly what's on tap for the Platinum Card nor when those changes will take place. But the pieces are starting to come together.
The Amex Platinum currently comes with an annual $200 hotel credit for FHR and The Hotel Collection bookings (with a two-night minimum stay for those properties), so it wouldn't be a brand-new benefit … but certainly more valuable than what's currently offered – especially for business owners.
Today, the Business Platinum card doesn't have that hotel perk, period. Instead, Business Platinum cardholders get up to $200 per year in statement credit for Hilton hotel bookings – split up into quarterly chunks of $50 each.
If true, this increased (and added) benefit is hardly a surprise. When Chase debuted its “refreshed” *chase sapphire reserve* earlier this summer, it came with a new credit of up to $500 per year ($250 semi-annually) for The Edit by Chase Travel℠ hotel bookings, which is itself a near carbon copy of Amex's Fine Hotels + Resorts. Seeing Amex one-up its biggest competitor with a slightly bigger credit would hardly come as a shock.
If the September date holds true, it would make sense for the bank to relaunch both cards at that time … and that date tracks. Earlier this year, Amex quietly updated one of the Business Platinum's best perks, giving cardholders a 35% rebate when using points to book any business or first class flight. Come Sept. 18, that will be limited to only one airline from Amex's list of available options.
Beyond this (potentially) leaked hotel benefit, we don't know much else about what Amex has in store for its new-look Platinum Cards. The annual fee is rumored to be going up to $895 per year from its current annual_fees (see rates & fees) price point.
We've done our best guesswork that the personal version will likely include a handful of new lifestyle and travel credits, following Amex's typical playbook. In addition to an increased hotel credit, it wouldn't be shocking to see the bank add a new dining credit for U.S. Resy restaurants, similar to the one that's been added to the *amex gold* and suite of Delta co-branded cards over the past couple of years.
Knowing that Chase and Citi recently added credits for concerts and live events to each of their top cards, Amex will probably find a way to do something similar, while removing some other long-standing third-party credits.

Bottom Line
A leaked Amex webpage may have revealed a major change coming Sept. 18, 2025: a new $600 annual Fine Hotels + Resorts credit for both Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders. That's triple the current personal Platinum credit and brand-new for the Business Platinum.
The rumored update could debut alongside other refreshed perks (and a likely fee hike to $895) as Amex seeks to one-up Chase and Citi in the premium card perks race.
