American Express has been hard at work over the last few months adding new, temporary benefits to most of their travel rewards credit cards.
And starting on June 1, cardholders of both the Hilton Aspire American Express Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express card have been able to use their respective property credits at U.S. restaurants through August. This has made it much easier to use up those credits when hotel stays are largely on pause.
But time is running out! You have through next Monday, Aug. 31 to use up the balance of these credits at restaurants.

The $250 Hilton Resort Credit
Each year you hold the Hilton Honors Aspire card, you will receive a $250 Hilton Resort Statement Credit. It’s based on your cardmember year and not the calendar year. So if you opened the card in June, you would receive a new $250 resort credit each year after paying your annual fee in June.
Historically, the credit can be used for incidental charges during a stay at participating Hilton resorts. That means you can use it for things like dining at restaurants on the resort, activities, or a trip to the spa. All you need to do is charge the expenses to your room and pay with your Aspire card at checkout.
As the COVID-19 pandemic changes travel as we know it, banks are getting creative, and adding new benefits to help cardholders justify large annual fees on travel cards when travel isn’t possible.
So through August 2020, this $250 credit can be used at U.S. restaurants. All you’ll have to do is spend on the card and American Express will reimburse you until you hit the $250 threshold. It will even work for food delivery platforms like DoorDash and GrubHub.

The $300 Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Statement Credit
Each year you hold the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card, you will receive a $300 statement credit that can be used towards a stay at any Marriott property. So while travel is largely off the table, Amex is shifting gears with this credit as well.
Through August 2020, this $300 credit can also be used at U.S. restaurants. All you’ll have to do is spend on the card and American Express will reimburse you until you hit the $300 threshold.

Bottom Line
If you hold either of these two credit cards, the statement credits can be used at U.S. restaurants through the end of August. But time is running out. You have until next Monday, Aug. 31 to use them up. These credits should make it much easier to get more value out of these two hotel cards to justify keeping them open for another year.
