Since 2012, Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select cardholders have been offered a 10% rebate on AAdvantage point redemptions. This is a rarely discussed but valuable feature of the co-branded AAdvantage Platinum Select card.
Cardholders of the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard would be instantly credited back 10% of your AA points upon redemption. The bonus was capped at 10k points per calendar year, regardless of how many Citi AAdvantage cards you held.
According to Dom at The Short Final, Citi and American Airlines are no longer offering the 10% rebate on mileage redemptions for Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select cardholders. He confirmed this news with both Citi and American on Twitter as is pictured below.
Our Analysis
Citi and American Airlines recently announced changes to the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card, however, there was no mention of this benefit going away as a part of these changes. Further, I just checked the benefits of the card on Citi's website and on the card application. There is no longer mention of the 10% rebate in either place.
These new benefits aren't scheduled to take place until July 22nd for existing cardmembers, so it is possible the benefit is only not available for new cardmembers. There are data points of existing cardmembers reporting the benefit is still working, but my guess is this will not be available much longer.
Oddly enough, the application for the Barclay's Aviator credit card still shows the 10% rebate as a benefit of card membership. It is unclear if the card will continue to offer the benefit at this time.
Bottom Line
This was one of my favorite benefits of holding the Citi AAdvantage Platinum select card. It will be interesting to see if the same benefit on the Barclay's Aviator card is kept intact or removed like we have seen on the Citi card. Stay tuned.
