Marriott and Chase are out with big new offers on both the Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card for a limited time. In fact, the offer on the Bonvoy Boundless card is the best we’ve ever seen on the card.

New applicants on the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card can earn five free night certificates after spending $5,000 within the first three months of card membership – and those certificates can be used for stays of up to 50,000 points per night. Play it right, and those five free nights are worth up to 250,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, dwarfing other Marriott credit card offers … on a card with just a $95 annual fee!

On the no-annual-fee Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card, you can now earn 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after spending just $2,000 in the first three months of card membership. That’s up from the standard 30,000-point offer after spending just $1,000 in the first three months.

Beyond welcome bonuses, these cards have plenty of differences. Read on for everything you need to know about the Marriott Bonvoy Bold and Boundless cards.

Why the Bonvoy Boundless May Be Worth It

If you are thinking about picking up a co-branded Marriott credit card, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card is a really solid offer – one of the best we’ve seen from Marriott, in fact.

Maximize this bonus, and you can redeem for up to 250,000 points in free Marriott nights, allowing you to come out way ahead on the card’s $95 annual fee.

Marriott and Chase seem to really like these free night offers as opposed to the traditional big sum of Bonvoy points – and there’s a reason. Each of the free night certificates that you earn will expire 12 months after you earn them. So rather than doling out points, there’s a chance that travelers who earn these free nights will let them go unused before they expire. That’s called breakage, and banks and travel companies love it.

That means it’s up to you to prove them wrong and maximize these free night certificates – preferably for the full 250,000-point value. So if you take advantage, you should at least have a general idea of how you will use up the five free nights before they expire.

Marriott recently made it a bit harder to make the most of both points and free night certificates. Back in March, the hotel chain started the transition of its Bonvoy points toward dynamic pricing. They’re ditching the award chart governing how many points a night at all of their properties should cost: Eventually, the value of Bonvoy points will be more closely tied to the cash price of a stay.

That likely means the most expensive properties will cost more points than they previously did. But there is no question that you can still find value in the program. It shouldn’t be too hard to get plenty of value out of these free night certificates.

What to Consider Before Applying

Since Marriott has co-branded credit cards issued from both American Express and Chase, you’ll need to understand the application rules for each of their cards.

With Chase, you will be subject to the 5/24 rule if you want to open either of these Marriott cards. That means if you have opened five or more credit cards from any bank (not just Chase) in the past 24 months, you will not be eligible to open either card.

Additionally, if you have earned the welcome offer bonus on either of these cards within the past 24 months, you will not be eligible.

Finally, you won’t be eligible to apply if you have the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Credit Card, or have earned the bonus on that card in the past 24 months.

Bottom Line

This is a stellar offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card. You can earn five free nights worth up to 50,000 points each. However, those certificates will expire within a year if you let them go unused.

But even beyond that initial bonus, you shouldn’t have to work too hard to squeeze value out of the Marriott Boundless Card. While the card has an annual fee of $95, you’ll get a free night certificate worth up to 35,000 points each year on your cardmember anniversary.

  • Does anybody see the 5 certificates offer as a referral offer? I only see the old 3 nights certificate on chase.

    Thanks!
