American Airlines and Citi just confirmed what frequent flyers have been bracing for: The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® is about to cost more.
Starting Aug. 23, 2026, the annual fee jumps from $595 to $695 – a $100 increase. If you apply before then, you'll lock in the current $595 fee for your first year – savings of $100 right out of the gate – plus get a stack of new benefits that at least attempt to justify the higher price tag.
If you're already eyeing this card, that's a real reason to move now rather than wait … but there's a (potential) catch: Card refreshes like this one often come with splashier welcome offers once the new benefits officially go live.
Right now, the Executive Card's public bonus sits at 70,000 miles after spending a whopping $7,000 in the first three months. That's actually a smaller bonus than the 80,000-mile offer after spending $3,500 in the first four months on the cheaper Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, which only carries a $99 annual fee (waived the first year).
To be clear: We don't have any inside intel on what Citi and AA are planning for the relaunch. But it wouldn't be shocking if a bigger bonus shows up once the new benefits are live in a few weeks – which means applying now to save $100 could mean missing out on a richer welcome offer later.

Breaking Down the New Benefits
Up to $500 AA Vacations Credit
The card now offers up to $500 back annually on American Airlines Vacations packages, split into two $250 semiannual chunks (one for January to June, one for July to December). To trigger the credit, you need to book two or more travel components – think flight plus car, or hotel plus car – through AA Vacations. A flight or hotel-only booking won't cut it.
That requirement makes this feel more restrictive than it first sounds. But there's flexibility if you get creative: a flight paired with a cheap rental car you never pick up, or a one-night hotel stay bundled with a car, can be enough to trigger the credit without actually booking a full-blown “vacation.”
For example, roundtrip flights from Minneapolis (MSP) to Miami (MIA) cost $369 for a quick weekend getaway at the end of September.
If you instead booked those exact same flights through AA Vacations, bundled with a three-day car rental, your cost would be $483. That means you're paying an extra $114 for the car but getting a $250 credit in the process.
Even if you don't need a car while you're in Miami, booking a package like this could make sense to trigger that credit and recoup a bit of your annual fee.
Omni Hotel Status, Free Night
Cardholders now get automatic Omni Select Guest Champion status, the second-highest tier in Omni's loyalty program. That gets you perks like early check-in, late checkout, and room upgrades (subject to availability).
There's also a new Omni Free Night Reward, earned once per calendar year after a qualifying stay of two or more consecutive nights booked directly through Omni.
For the uninitiated, Omni Hotels & Resorts runs a little over 50 properties, mostly across the U.S., with a couple in Canada and one opening in Mexico next year.

It's nowhere near the footprint of Hilton or Marriott, but the hotels themselves are genuinely nice, and this is a meaningful add for AA flyers who cross paths with an Omni.
An Easier Path to Status for Big Spenders
The card's Loyalty Point bonus structure is getting a real upgrade. Previously, cardholders could earn up to 20,000 bonus Loyalty Points per year, with milestones at 50,000 and 90,000 Loyalty Points.
Now there are four milestones instead of two – 50,000, 90,000, 165,000, and 240,000 – each worth 10,000 bonus Loyalty Points, for a total of up to 40,000 bonus points per year.

If this seems familiar, it's because it is. This new benefit mirrors a perk that used to live on the Barclays Aviator Silver AA card, back before AA moved that portfolio over to Citi. If you're chasing AAdvantage status and putting real spend on this card, the extra points add up fast (or faster) toward top-tier status.
A New $100 In-Flight and Admirals Club Credit
You can now earn up to $100 back per calendar year on in-flight purchases and eligible Admirals Club purchases – everything from a snack cart drink to a premium cocktail at the lounge bar.
Odds & Ends
The AA Executive Card will now earn 12x AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on eligible AAdvantage Hotels® and AAdvantage Cars® bookings, up from the previous 10x earning.
The card's Lyft credit is also increasing to $15 per month (up to $180 per year), but you'll still need to take a minimum of three rides each month to qualify – a pretty big hurdle for occasional riders.
Finally, the card now includes complimentary Avis President's Club status for a more seamless car rental experience, including upgrades, expedited service that lets customers skip the rental counter at major airports, and complimentary additional drivers.
What's Staying the Same
Here's the thing that hasn't changed and probably shouldn't get lost in all this: Unlimited Admirals Club access for the primary cardholder plus two guests or immediate family is still included.
For comparison, that guest policy is roughly in line with what United offers on its $695 annual fee *united club* – but it blows away Delta, where the annual_fees annual fee (see rates & fees) *Delta SkyMiles Reserve* gets zero complimentary guests – just four individual lounge passes a year.

With a standalone Admirals Club membership soon costing $1,400 a year, this card remains the cheapest way into AA's lounge network by a wide margin. And AA is actually investing in its lounge game – new and renovated lounges are coming, plus there's the addition of a grab-and-go Provisions by Admirals Club location at Charlotte (CLT), with new locations at New York (JFK) and Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) on the way.
If you fly through an airport with an Admirals Club with any regularity, that alone is a strong reason to keep this card in your wallet.
Bottom Line
The Citi AAdvantage Executive Card's annual fee is going up to $695 on Aug. 23 – a $100 increase. But AA is adding new credits and perks to help soften the blow: Between the new $500 AA Vacations credit, Omni Hotels Champion status and free night, and an easier path to AAdvantage status with double the bonus Loyalty Points, there's a real case these changes are a net win for AA loyalists.
If you want to lock in the lower annual fee for the first year, you've got until Aug. 23 to apply – just know, it could mean missing out on a bigger welcome offer when these new benefits go live.
