Award Travel Reporter & Content Creator

Are you a points-and-miles aficionado who loves writing or sharing tips on video and social media? We're hiring a full-time Award Travel Reporter & Content Creator to join our travel-obsessed team in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area.

In this hybrid role, you’ll create engaging video content (Instagram Reels, YouTube, etc.) about maximizing travel rewards, points and miles, and credit card strategies, while also writing articles for our website. We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable traveler who knows the ins and outs of airline frequent flyer programs and has the creative flair to educate and excite our audience. Bonus if you’re already doing this on your own time – booking awesome award trips, hunting for award space, or even making travel videos for fun!

We will also cross-train you on our Thrifty Traveler Premium flight & hotel deal alert service so you can incorporate the latest deals and award availability insights into your content.

Interested in the job? Apply now via this form!

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Produce Engaging Video Content: Develop, script, and film high-quality videos for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms that teach travelers how to leverage points and miles for maximum value. This includes recording and editing tips, tutorials, and breaking news in the points & miles world – all in Thrifty Traveler’s fun, approachable voice.
  • Content Creation & Writing: Write complementary stories for publication at ThriftyTraveler.com (short articles, longer guides, news updates, and more) that distills complex points-and-miles concepts into reader-friendly insights. Strong writing skills are important – prior published experience is preferred.
  • Stay on Top of Trends: Continuously monitor the points & miles landscape – credit card rewards, airline and hotel loyalty program updates, transfer partner bonuses, etc. – to generate timely content ideas. You’ll essentially be our in-house points & miles nerd, ensuring our audience never misses important developments or sweet spot redemption opportunities.
  • Leverage Thrifty Traveler Premium: Use your training in our flight and hotel deal alert service to spot and highlight noteworthy award sales or cheap fares in your content. For example, you might highlight a fantastic lie-flat business class award deal to Europe in a video, giving viewers a real-world example of using points for big value.
  • Collaborate with the Team: Work closely with our editorial team and flight deal analysts to come up with content that meets Thrifty Traveler’s standards for accuracy and style. Brainstorm new formats or series (like “how to” guides, trip vlogs, news roundups) that fit our brand. You’ll also participate in regular team meetings to share what you’re working on and stay synced with company priorities.
  • Engage the Community: Interact with Thrifty Traveler’s audience on social media. Respond to comments and questions on videos, foster discussion in our Thrifty Traveler Premium Members-Only Facebook group, and help build a community of enthusiastic travelers who learn from your content.

Qualifications

  • Location & Schedule: Must be based in the Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP) metro area. This is a hybrid position – you’ll split your week between working in-person at our Minneapolis office and working remotely. Our team is fun and collaborative, so in-person time is valuable. Candidates should be located in MSP or willing to relocate. We are currently not considering fully remote applicants for this role. Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Expertise in Points & Miles: Deep understanding of loyalty programs, credit card rewards, and redemption strategies. You should know how to strategically earn and burn airline miles for maximum value – for instance, the best ways to use major programs like American AAdvantage, Amex Membership Rewards, World of Hyatt, etc. A solid understanding of how to use airline miles to book award travel is essential. Strong knowledge of airline alliances, transfer partners, and credit card points ecosystems is required. In short, you live and breathe points and miles, and have plenty of firsthand experience using them.
  • Content Creation & Writing Skills: Proven ability to create engaging content, especially video. You are comfortable, confident, and experienced being on camera, with a presence that resonates with viewers (on-camera journalism or YouTube/Instagram content creation experience is a big plus). Video editing skills (or an eagerness to learn) are not required but a bonus. But strong writing skills are important, too – published journalism or blogging experience is a plus.
  • Creativity & Communication: A creative storyteller who can break down complex topics into fun, digestible content that hooks viewers. You have a knack for simplifying award charts, airline rules, or credit card perks so that anyone can understand. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, as is an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Motivated & Collaborative: This role offers a lot of independence, so you should be a self-starter who can manage your own calendar and consistently deliver on deadlines. But you’ll also be part of a tight-knit team, so we value someone who works well with others, is open to feedback, and contributes ideas. An ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while keeping a keen eye on the little things is important.
  • Passion for Travel & Learning: You genuinely love travel and want to help others travel more for less – that’s our company mission. You’re the type of person who gets excited finding an unbelievable award flight deal or a huge credit card bonus, and you can’t wait to share that excitement with an audience. You stay up-to-date with industry news and are always learning new tricks to maximize points.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field is great but not required. What really matters is your proven expertise in points & miles and content creation. If you have built a following with your own travel content or have unique experience in the award travel world, let us know!

Benefits

  • Salary range: $65,000-$70,000, negotiable based upon experience
  • Hybrid work environment (with access to an on-site gym)
  • 401k matching up to 5%
  • Company-sponsored health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 15 days of vacation to start
  • Paid parental leave
  • A growing, values-driven team of people who are passionate about travel
