Free Wi-Fi in the sky is quickly becoming the new standard, and Southwest is the latest airline to join the club. Come Oct. 24, 2025, every Southwest flight will offer Rapid Rewards members unlimited Wi-Fi at no extra cost.
The airline announced Thursday that it’s rolling out free, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi across its entire fleet of more than 800 aircraft, in partnership with T-Mobile. Travelers don’t need to be T-Mobile customers to take advantage. The only requirement is a Rapid Rewards account. Signing up is free, and you can even do it in-flight to get connected.
Southwest says the move comes after testing free Wi-Fi earlier this year, which showed strong customer satisfaction. The rollout will make Southwest the largest U.S. airline to offer free fleetwide Wi-Fi.
How It Compares to Other Airlines
Southwest is the latest carrier to embrace free in-flight internet, but it’s hardly alone.
Delta, JetBlue, Hawaiian, and United already offer free Wi-Fi for loyalty program members, though United is still completing its rollout. American Airlines offers shorter free sessions, typically just 15–20 minutes, before requiring payment.
On Alaska and American, T-Mobile customers can also get free access — but it’s limited to that group.
By making Wi-Fi free for all Rapid Rewards members, Southwest is going further than most competitors, ensuring every traveler onboard can stay connected, regardless of their wireless provider.
More Changes Coming to Southwest
The Wi-Fi news is a bright spot after a string of controversial changes at the airline. In recent months, Southwest has eliminated its hallmark free checked bags, introduced basic economy fares, and announced it will transition to assigned seating.
More updates are coming soon: the airline plans to roll out extra-legroom seating and a revamped boarding process in the months ahead.
Southwest says it hasn't lost customers due to the changes, although our survey indicates otherwise.
