Virgin Atlantic Reverses Massive Fee Hike on Delta Awards
Whew. That’s a sigh of relief, as we recently brought you the potentially crushing news that Virgin Atlantic was slapping some hefty fees on international Delta award flights. Surcharges that were once a flat $5.60 spiked to $152.90 for flights to Japan. On business class awards to Europe, more than $500 in fees popped up.
However, One Mile at a Time reports that, at least for now, those fee hikes have disappeared. That’s what we’re finding as well. Though it’s worth noting that flights out of Europe, and in/out of the UK, will still face some larger surcharges. But that was always the case.
Whether it was a technical glitch that caused the fee increase or Virgin has simply reversed course, we may never know. There’s no telling whether this fee backtrack will be permanent. So if you’ve been eyeing a Delta flight and could save some serious miles by booking through Virgin Atlantic, it’d be wise to book fast.

We hope this fee reversal holds because using Virgin Atlantic to book Delta awards is one of our favorite workarounds. You can often book Delta awards through Virgin Atlantic then you can with Delta directly.
