Uber is Coming to Fargo this Thursday
According to the Fargo Forum, this Thursday, May 14th, will be the first day of Uber service in Fargo, ND. We have quite a few readers from Fargo here at Thrifty Traveler so I thought I’d give a nice shout out. If you have never used Uber before you are in for a treat. Uber provides quick pick-ups right from your phone app and is a cashless transaction which requires no tipping! Rides are typically 20% cheaper than a normal taxi, and there are no charges for extra passengers either!
For the last four months Uber has been hiring and training drivers for Thursday’s launch. No longer will you be stranded downtown waiting for an hour trying to get a ride home after bar close! This is going to be a big deal for Fargo as the increase in transportation options should cut down significantly on the number of intoxicated motorists on the road. Of course Uber service is not limited to the evening and will be available 24 hours a day. Uber drivers work whenever they want so I expect quite a few to fill in the gaps where the current taxi companies fail to do so.
How to get Uber
Click on my Uber affiliate link to sign up. It takes less than 5 minutes and your first ride up to $20 will be free. I get $20 as well so it’s a win-win! After signing up download the phone app to get started.
How to use Uber
Uber is as simple as it gets. You just fire up the phone app, sign in, and it should already know your location. If not drop the pin to where you want to be picked up. I would make sure you select UberX as it’s the cheapest ride available. Then you just hit the request Uber button and you should have a ride in no time. After you request an Uber, make sure to enter the destination in the app so the driver will know where to take you.
There is no cash allowed and your payment is automatically charged to your debit or credit card. Also there is no tipping required. After your ride is complete just get out of the car and you can rate your driver on the app. A receipt will be mailed to you within minutes of your completed ride.
Uber is cheaper than a cab and you never have to worry about having enough cash or tipping. Another great thing about Uber is once you sign up it will work anywhere in the world that has Uber service. The only issue I have run into is that some cities do not allow you to get picked up at the airport through Uber (Minneapolis/NYC). That’s one small drawback to a great service. Enjoy!
Thrifty Tip #1: Uber won’t allow you to get picked up at the airport in Minneapolis. To get around this drop your pickup pin just slightly outside of of the airport. Then request a pickup. Once they accept your request, call them through the app and let them know you are at the airport. If this fails take the light rail just outside the airport for a pick-up. This little tip works and will save you a lot of cash over a taxi!
Thrifty Tip #2: The Capital One Quicksilver Card gives 20% statement credits for every ride!
Thrifty Tip #3: Want to make a little cash on the side and work when you want to? Apply to Uber!
