Starwood Preferred Guest Amex 35,000 Point Sign-Up Bonus (highest ever!)
Update: This offer is expired!
Several times a year American Express offers an enhanced sign-up bonus of 30,000 points, and they have been doing this for years. Last night American Express dropped the best offer I’ve seen in the last seven years! Both the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) personal and business cards are offering 35,000 until March 30, 2016.
This is a big increase from the usual 25,000 points for the SPG cards. I’d definitely jump on this offer due to the upcoming Marriott – Starwood merger occurring this summer. It’s likely that sometime this year or in 2017, the SPG program will disappear and be merged into the Marriott program. At that time the SPG Amex cards will likely be discontinued. I imagine American Express are anticipating this and that is why they are offering such a high offer. They want to pull in as many cardholders as possible so they can provide them with alternative cards in the future.
Just a heads up that both the personal and business cards are now once per lifetime. The rule used to be that you could earn a bonus every 12 months with the business cards but that was changed recently to once per lifetime. If you’re new to the SPG cards you should read our review on why the SPG cards are the best travel credit cards and also why SPG is the best hotel loyalty program. The SPG program is my go to loyalty program. The best value is not only for hotel redemptions (like our massive room in Paris) but also for airline transfers. The SPG card makes a great transfer partner with Alaska where you can transfer points to Emirates to fly First Class!
Thrifty Tip: Recently applied for the SPG card at the lower 25k offer? Call in you may be matched to the higher offer! Reader @jonathanghopper messaged me to let me know he was matched this morning via a phone call!
If you don’t have the personal and business SPG cards now is the time to make your move. Even if you only sell items on eBay or Craigslist you should be able to apply for a Amex business card. Many times Amex gives instant approval for business cards and you aren’t even required to call in! These two cards most likely won’t be around much longer so get them while you can!
