Our Analysis

Chase only lets you hold one of the Southwest personal credit cards at a time. That means if you already have one of them open, you will not be approved for a second card. On top of that, the welcome bonus is not available if you have earned a welcome bonus on any of the three Southwest Airlines personal credit cards in the past 24 months.

Pair with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve

All three of these cards make great companion cards to either the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred cards. That’s because Chase Ultimate Rewards points, the points these cards earn, can be transferred into your Southwest Rapid Rewards account on a 1:1 basis instantly (1 Chase Point equals 1 Southwest Rapid Reward Point).

You can then use these points to purchase a flight and use the companion pass to get another one free.

Bottom Line

Southwest is one of our favorite airlines. Not because they’re the best airline in the world, but because Southwest knows who they are and they are extremely good at it. I love that you get two free checked bags, no cancellation or change fees. The generally positive attitude of the Southwest crew members is just a cherry on top.
