If you live in California, you should run, not walk to apply for this offer. This was previously a targeted offer but Southwest just opened it up to the public. All you need to do is apply for one of the three Chase Southwest credit cards and make a purchase to be awarded the Southwest Companion Pass through 12/31/18. If you’ve never heard of the Southwest Companion pass then you’re in for a shock, as it’s one of the most valuable perks in the points game.

Offer:

  • Apply for one of three Chase Southwest credit cards and spend $1,000 in 3 months to earn 40,000 miles
  • Make one purchase and be awarded the Chase Southwest Companion pass through 12/31/18

What is the Southwest Companion Pass?

The Companion Pass is a benefit received from the airline that lets you choose one person to fly free with you every time you purchase or redeem points for a flight on Southwest! No blackout dates and no questions asked! For each flight, your companion’s ticket will only cost the taxes and fees ($11.20 round trip on domestic flights).

The best part? There are no limits as to how many flights your companion can accompany you on, and the pass is valid for the year in which it is earned and the full calendar year following! You can even switch your designated companion three times per year.

Thrifty Tip: It’s important to note that all of the Chase co-branded Southwest Airlines credit cards fall under Chase’s 5/24 rule. If you have more than 5 credit card applications within the last 24 months you will be declined.

Why only California residents?

It’s no secret that Southwest is competing aggressively on the west coast with recently merged Alaska Airlines and Virgin America. Competition has been fierce and with the announcement of Southwest’s new routes to Hawaii, they need to cement a solid foothold in California. Offering the hard to earn Southwest Companion Pass for free is an easy way to get thousands of new passengers flying Southwest.

Bottom Line

We get no compensation for this offer, but we always want you guys to have access to the best offers available. Chase states the offer ends 11/30/17, but I’d apply ASAP it’s they could pull the offer early. Southwest is one of our favorite domestic airlines. We love that you get two free checked bags, no cancellation or change fees, and the general positive attitude of the Southwest crew members. If you live in California you need to get on this. This will even work on those upcoming Southwest flights to Hawaii! Not a California resident? Get more information about this card and other travel rewards cards here.
