[SMOKING DEAL] Wide open American AAdvantage Business Class award redemptions to Europe next Summer!

767-300 thrifty traveler

I’ve been in the process of planning a trip to Oktoberfest for 2016 and in the last week I’ve come across plentiful business class award availability via American Airlines AAdvantage program. This is definitely not the norm! The problem in the past has been that American almost always forces you to fly through London or fly British Airways on your way to anywhere in Europe. American then loads your award ticket with up to $1,000 in fuel surcharges, which basically ruins any award redemptions. I almost gave up on American for award redemptions. Well I can confirm things, at least for now, have changed. American has opened up business award availability to many of Europe’s major cities including London, Dublin, and Munich to name a few. These flights are available from almost every major city in the United States. The best availability appears to be out of London and Dublin so far. I highly suggest you book any trips you had planned very soon!

Thrifty Tip #1: This is a big deal because American never lets you just fly American planes to Europe on award redemptions. They always make you fly on a partner and hit you with massive fees as large as $1,000 making the award fare worthless!

Mrs. TT and I flew to Dusseldorf last year in business class on American’s 767-300 product. The flight was fantastic and only cost 100k AAdvantage miles + $125, but it was next to impossible to book. It was only after searching for hours and hours that I was finally able to find a flight which was all on American, and not on a partner such as British Airways. There was just no availability and there hasn’t been in years! So take advantage of this rare occasion to book!

Here are just a few I found in the last hour. There are also tons of direct flights from American hubs such as Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Los Angeles. These work one-way (50k AAdvantage miles) or round-trip (100k AAdvantage miles).

Daily availability on Business MileSAAver redemptions is almost unheard of. Well, right now it’s available in many European cities! This example is Los Angles to London in July/August ’16.

Los Angeles to London (100K AAdvantage Miles + $311)

This is an incredible deal for a business class with great connections. The return flight is direct! Taxes are incredibly low at $310 to London! This ticket retails for over $5k.

Minneapolis to Dublin (100k AAdvantage miles + $52)

All business class or first class for only 100k miles + $52. This is an incredible deal. I haven’t seen this great a deal in over four years.

Thrifty Tip #2: Avoid British Airways flights at all costs when trying to book AAdvantage flight redemptions. Try partners such as Air Berlin to save on fees!

Bottom Line

The best redemptions are through London or Dublin that I can tell right now. I also found Munich and Dusseldorf with less availability for around $100 in fees, which is also a great deal. Keep checking more cities and let me know what you find in the comments below!
