First it’s important to consider how expensive fares to South America can be. Reasonably priced award redemptions can be hard to come by with many of these redemptions typically going for 80k+ SkyMiles, especially from smaller regional U.S. cities. Snagging a deal to South America, especially Argentina, Brazil, and Chile for less than 50k SkyMiles is a steal since many of these fares go for as much as $1250 – $1750.
Most departure cities have availability for 40k-48k SkyMiles round-trip. This is still a significant savings off of the typical base redemption of 60k-100k SkyMiles. There are taxes and fees from $50+ which is standard taxes for international award tickets.
Thrifty Tip #2: The seasons are flipped in South America. Use our tips to find the best weather for your next trip.
If you’ve been holding out for a cheap trip to South America, then now is your time to book! Mileage programs tend to devalue over time so make sure to burn those SkyMiles, especially on solid deals like this.
