This is it: The biggest bonus we’ve seen on a hotel credit card.

The Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is out with its largest-ever welcome bonus of 150,000 IHG Rewards Points after spending $3,000 in the first three months of card membership.  That’s up from the norm of 80,000 to 125,000 points, and the card’s $89 annual fee is even waived for the first year!

With this card, you’ll also earn a total of 25x IHG Rewards points per dollar spent at IHG properties. , making it even easier to pile up more points at IHG hotels like Intercontinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and more. You also get an annual free night certificate, up to a $100 credit to pay the application fee for either TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, and the ability to get a fourth night free when booking award stays with points. It all adds up to a solid credit card that drastically outweighs its $89 annual fee (which is now waived for the first year of card membership).

IHG Rewards Club Premier Card Benefits

Welcome Bonus of 150,000 IHG Points

After spending $3,000 in your first three months of card membership, you’ll earn 150,000 IHG Rewards. Considering free nights start at 10,000 points and go as high as 70,000 nights for top-of-the-line Intercontinental properties, you have some great options to get a lot of value out of this bonus.

Annual Free Night Certificate

Starting in your second year of card membership, you’ll receive a free night certificate to use at IHG properties once each year – with a small catch. Your free night is only eligible for properties that cost 40,000 points or less.

Still, there are plenty of good ways to put that certificate to use. See our post on the best ways to use the IHG free night certificate

A $100 Credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck

You’ll get an automatic credit for up to $100 to cover either Global Entry or TSA Precheck – just pay your application fee with the card. You’ll receive this benefit every four years and program membership is good for five years. Considering a Global Entry membership costs $100, this easily offsets the card’s annual fee. Global Entry and PreCheck are must-haves for frequent travelers.

Fourth Night Free with Points

You’ll receive your fourth night free if you book three or more consecutive award stay nights at an IHG property. Free nights on continuous award stays are a familiar perk for hotel credit cards. But IHG’s kicks in sooner than any other, as most require at least four nights to get a fifth night free.

And it’s automatic: When you book three or more nights with points at the same hotel, that fourth night will be free. This gives you an extra way to squeeze even more out of that 150,000-point bonus.

Automatic IHG Platinum Elite Status

You’ll get IHG Platinum Elite status as soon as you get the card. Platinum Elite status with IHG gets you complimentary room upgrades when available and a 50 percent point bonus on paid reservations. It also gets you guaranteed room availability, priority check-in, and free late checkout. As a bonus, your points will never expire with Platinum Elite status.

25x Points Per Dollar Spent at IHG Properties:

Earn an additional 25x points per dollar spent at IHG hotels. You’ll also earn 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants and 1x point on all other purchases.

Cell Phone Protection Coverage

If you pay your monthly cell phone bill with your IHG credit card, you will receive up to $800 per claim and $1,000 per year in cell phone protection against covered theft or damage as long as the phone is listed on your account. You’ll have to pay a $50 deductible per claim, allowing you to make a maximum of two claims in a 12-month period. Read more on how IHG’s cell phone protection works.

Our Analysis

The IHG Rewards Club Premier Card is among our favorite hotel credit cards. With 150,000 bonus points, an annual free night, a $100 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, and a fourth night free on award stays, this card holds tremendous value. Not to mention, the annual fee is completely waived in the first. And your points will never expire for as long as you hold the card.

It’s important to note that Chase’s 5/24 rule does apply to this card. If you have opened more than five credit cards from any bank (not just Chase) in the last 24 months, you will not be eligible for card approval.

The IHG chain has more than 5,200 hotels worldwide, including brands all the way from Holiday Inn Express to Kimpton and Intercontinental. So finding a location to use the points shouldn’t be an issue.

Add up the bonus points and the free night certificate, and you should be able to easily squeeze at least three hotel nights out of this card – if not much, much more. At an $89 annual fee (which is now waived for the first year of card membership), that’s some tremendous value that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Bottom Line

Give the IHG Rewards Club Premier Card a hard look. IHG is a massive hotel chain that makes it relatively easy to book award stays. And this current offer to earn 150,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first three months of card membership is a great offer.

  • Anything for the IHG Traveler card? I’m waiting for that one to go up from 60,000 to 100,000 like earlier this year. Thanks.

    • It wasn’t included as a part of this increased offer. However, you could take advantage of this offer (since the annual fee is waived in year one) and downgrade to the traveler card before year two. You’ll earn more points this way.

    • I don’t even see the IHG Traveler card on chase page anymore. Does it mean that the card has been discontinued?

  • I would but I earned the 140,000 bonus on this card last year about this time. I’ll have to wait until next year to get that one again. ☺
