Save AA Miles, Fly To or From 170+ Reduced Mileage Awards Airports
American Airlines has released its new list of more than 170 airports scattered across the U.S. that qualify for big discounts when using miles.
You can save thousands of miles flying to or from Aspen (ASE) or Jackson Hole (JAC) in October. November airports include Bangor, Maine (BGR), Albuquerque (ABQ) and Bozeman (BZN). The list keeps growing in December, with airports like Austin (AUS), Flagstaff (FLG) and Nashville (BNA). Come January, some major international airports make the cut like Houston-Intercontinental (IAH) and San Francisco (SFO).
That’s just a tiny taste of the airports that qualify for steep discounts. We won’t post the full list here, so head to American’s Reduced MIleage Awards homepage to scope that out. Among some of the other highlights, and when they’re bookable:
- Asheville, North Carolina (AVL): January
- Atlanta (ATL): January
- Austin (AUS): December, January
- Baltimore (BWI): January
- Bozeman (BZN): November

We’ve written a full guide on how these award tickets work and how to book them. As a reminder, American allows certain credit cardholders to book nonstop flights to or from these qualifying airports for a big discount. You can get up to 7,500 miles off on most round-trip flights and a 2,000-mile discount on flights shorter than 500 miles.
American revamps this list of Reduced Mileage Awards destinations every few months, and this latest rendition is worth a look. Just remember: Only one airport on your route needs to make the list in order to get the discount. If your home airport qualifies, every flight you take is eligible for up to 7,500 miles off. That’s a steal.
The available airports change month-by-month from October through January, though nearly 60 are eligible for the entire four-month span. Scan the list and you’ll find that most are smaller airports, as per usual. Think Fargo, North Dakota (FAR); Durango, Colorado (DRO); Lubbock, Texas (LBB) and dozens more.
But there are some exceptions. Detroit (DTW), Atlanta (ATL), New Orleans (MSY), Portland (PDX)) are all on the list in January. So any nonstop flight in or out of them will run you 17,500 American miles at most. But you still have to find award availability, and these routes are likely the toughest to find award space on.
And it pays to plan ahead, as the amount of airports available for discounts is always far larger the farther you get out in the calendar. Just 71 airports are bookable in October, but that swells to 165 in January.
There are some great opportunities to book domestic flights while saving some serious miles here, particularly in January when the list of qualifying airports is long and includes some big names. Reduced Mileage Awards are a great way to use AA miles, and one of the cheapest ways to book domestic flights.
