Top 5 Ways To Meet Credit Card Bonus Spending Requirements
Getting big credit card sign-up bonuses to travel the world is awesome. Falling into credit card debt is not. The credit card companies hope you will be lured into signing up for a credit card and be unable to pay off the balance. Don’t fall into that trap. I see too many people think they can handle the points game only to make frivolous purchases to hit their minimum spend requirements and ultimately rack up debt. Do not buy random stuff you don’t need!
Our method of signing up for credit cards is intended for people who can pay off their credit card each month and not carry a balance. Carrying a balance from month to month is damn expensive and negates any awards you may receive.
1. Buying items to resell on Craigslist/eBay
I typically buy items on eBay and get cash back through my eBay account. You can find cheap deals on almost any items at SlickDeals.net. I usually look to get $20-50 profit per item. If I don’t realize that before the return period is over I return it. Worst case I can sell it for what I paid for it and if not mail it back.
I’ve been using SlickDeals for about 10 years now and have found great deals on daily items and also things to resell. The items I have found to be the easiest to resell are:
- Electronics in general
- Apple products
- Refurbished Dyson vacuums (don’t laugh, I’m serious)
- Game Consoles (especially new releases)
2. Paying Taxes
I’ve used this method when I’ve had large spending requirements to hit. The fee is typically around 1.87%. Do the math yourself to see if it makes sense. I have used payUSAtax in the past and it worked great.
3. Utilities/Cable/Car Insurance
Make sure that your bills are on autopay with a credit card if at all possible. Consider prepaying your car insurance.
4. Rent / Utilities
You can pay your rent through RadPad but it charges a costly 2.5%. Plastiq also offers the same fee but allows you to send payments for virtually anything. Again you will have to be the judge if the juice is worth the squeeze. Check out my article on RadPad / Plastiq.
5.Picking up the tab for Family/Friends
Next time you go on a group trip offer to cover the expenses and then split them later. You’ll look like a nice guy/gal and earn extra points!
