Last day to get the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) 30k Offer!
Several times a year American Express offers an enhanced sign-up bonus of 30,000 points, up from the usual 25,000 points for the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) card. The offer expires this Monday, September 14th. I covered the improved card benefits in my recent review of the SPG card. I am confident the SPG credit cards are the best travel cards based on Starwood’s solid loyalty program and the ability to earn bonus miles when you transfer to almost any airline.
Some of the recent enhancements include:
- No Foreign Transaction Fees — Enjoy international travel without foreign transaction fees.
- Free Unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi — You’ll get complimentary, unlimited Wi-Fi access when you enroll in the Boingo American Express Preferred Plan. More info here.
- Free Premium In-Room Internet Access — Usually faster than the basic internet.
- Sheraton Club Access — If you have the SPG Business card, you’ll receive free access to Sheraton Clubs when you book paid stays. This is basically free continental breakfast and evening snacks. Nothing fancy but it’s a nice perk.
With some of the great enhancements, the annual fee has gone up from $65 to $95. I’d say the enhanced benefits outweigh the increased fee. I’ve often been frustrated by the foreign transaction fees when staying at Starwood Hotels abroad, most recently while staying at the Westin Paris. I’m very glad to hear I can use this anywhere in the world, without the fear of additional fees, as it is one of my favorite credit cards. Read more about how to earn SPG Elite status here.
