Fly Your Kids to the Azores Islands for 50% Off
Azores Airlines is out with a great new promotion that should have a lot of appeal for those interested in family travel. Starting on August 20th, the airline is giving children between the ages of 2 and 11 a 50% discount on the lowest published fare (not including surcharges or airport taxes) to the Portuguese Archipelago.
According to a spokesperson for the airline, they are hoping to “encourage families looking for [a destination] that is safe, close and great for families.”
How to Take Advantage of the Deal
In order to take advantage of this deal, parents must book their travel between August 20th and September 9th, 2018 for trips from Boston (BOS), the airline’s only US gateway, to the Azorean island of São Miguel (PDL). You must complete your travel between either November 1st and December 18th or between January 10th and April 30th, 2019. The airfare must be booked directly with Azores Airlines on their website or by calling (800.762.9995).
Azores Airlines currently operates nine weekly flights from Boston (BOS) to São Miguel (PDL) flying Airbus’s new A321neo.
Where are the Azores?
The Azores is a chain of nine islands located about 950 miles off of the coast of Portugal characterized by dramatic volcanic landscapes, green pastures, and incredible ocean views. The islands are emerging as a popular tourist destination and are even being referred to as the next Iceland.
A flight from the US to the Azores is only five hours long and the island is incredibly affordable once you are there. Mr. TT and I were in the Azores at the beginning of June and had a great time. Food and drinks are surprisingly cheap as is lodging. We found that the island is still largely unexplored by American travelers, and offer many fun adventures including views like Sete Cidades (lead photo), natural hot springs, hiking trails and fantastic restaurants.
We stayed at the Azore Hotel located on São Miguel island for only 7,000 SPG points per night (soon to be 25,000 Marriott points) which we thought was a steal. The property was centrally located to everything we wanted to do and provided great views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean.
It is currently possible to earn 75,000 Marriott rewards points from both the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card and the Starwood Preferred Guest personal card. That is enough for a free three-night stay at the Azor Hotel or a six-night stay if you were to open both cards.
The Azores are beautiful and this new promotion from Azores Airlines is a great opportunity to save on your next family adventure. Make sure to wait and book starting on August 20th, for travel between either November 1st and December 18th or between January 10th and April 30th, 2019.
